So what does everyone think? Poor strategy by the Canucks trying to kill the game with only a one goal lead?

I could understand doing it up 5-2. But up 1-0? Seems like you have to figure a team like the Hawks is going to be able to push one solitary goal across.

That was an awesome game last night. Luongo was incredible -- and it was even more incredible when we finally got to him!

I don't think it was a poor strategy. It certainly wasn't fan-friendly, but it's not their job to entertain us. Their strategy worked like a champ against the Hawks all night and if not for an amazing hussle play and sweet pass by Ladd, followed by a perfect shot by Havlat, the strategy probably would have led to a win.

I'm still waiting for that game where the Hawks blow up for the first minute and run them out of the building like they did the Flames in one the games, Game 5, I think. It would be nice to see them repeat that effort.

LOL @ the Havlat photoshop job.

Yeah -- we need to get the early lead for once. That would be the thing that stops Vancouver from playing to their strength, going with the snuff-out strategy and leaning on Luongo. I guess you're right though, if that's what you do best then you go with that when you have the lead. We just need to not let them get into that position anymore.

I believe you nailed it, an early Hawk lead takes them out of that style, I don't think a one goal lead would be enough. If the Hawks can somehow build an early 2 goal lead they'll have to open it up which plays to Hawks strength.

It's actually kind of fun reading those vancouver sun articles -- the style of writing is one that conveys how much hockey means to them. Good to hear it.

Although, there are some missed edits in there, but whatever.

Those articles and columns are definitely written for a different audience. But I prefer reading them over the local folks, except maybe the Daily Herald.

They aren't going to win unless they play the way they are playing. At this point in the playoffs every team they will face will have a much better offense than they do, so they are going to have to rely on Luongo and defense. This worked in the old NHL fine (see the devils and stars) but now it is much much harder to play that way.

Dude in game 3... the Canucks couldn't even tell you waht the word forecheck means. No joke... all they did was dump and then have all their skaters go stand behind their blue line. Worst form of hockey to watch... It is smart and it is effective if all 5 of your skaters know what they're doing, but it's really just wussy crap. Once they got the 1-0 lead in game 4 they tried the same crap and it worked all the way til 5 minutes left in the game.

Really think the winner of this one might win the series. It's always easier to win a Game 1-5 on the road then Game 6 or 7.

Going out on a flimsy limb with that prediction.
