1:53pm: The Denver Post's Troy Renck reports that the Rockies' pursuit of Gaudin has "cooled." The club is now focusing on the Rays' Jason Hammel.

Apparently, we asked them for a case of Gatorade, and all they were offering was a case of Jewel brand Sports Drink, and neither side would budge

Gaudin had another crappy game again today. The guy can't even have one decent game, every game he pitches lately he gives up at least 1-3 runs. The Cubs should just try to send him to Triple A, and hope nobody claims him and his 2m salary. I don't see anyway he's on the team on opening day now, with him struggling so bad.

Maybe Gaudin for Baker + Patton's rights?

There's no way we get that for Gaudin at this point. We would be lucky to get Gaudin for Baker straight up. The Rockies will probably also ask a arm and a leg for Patton rights. When teams see rule 5 picks, doing really well they usually don't like to give up there rights. Unless they get a prospect they really like back. I have a feeling if Gaudin is traded, it will probably be for nothing. I really hope I'm wrong though.

You never know what GMs think of a deal, but getting Baker (a sub IF with atrocious splits) for a 26 year old pitcher with some success relieving and starting shouldn't be automatically dismissed. It's not like we're asking for Pujols even up for Gaudin. If they won't include Patton's rights or if money is an issue, do what's necessary to get it done (i.e. throw in $1 million).

Just DFA him or whatever you need to do. If put through waivers, I cant imagine anyone taking him anyway. Hes been dreadfull all spring against minor leaguers, and showing no signs of improvement.

it's spring training. he's certainly had a bad spring, but c'mon. somebody will want him.

I thought the Cubs traded a player to the A's to allow them to keep Scott Chiasson who was a Rule 5 pick.

Yeah, Hinske.

They also got Miguel Cairo back from the As as part of that trade.

Gaudin reminds me somewhat of Jerome Williams in that they both had some success at the major league level before being traded to the Cubs, then fell apart afterwards.

Maybe the Cubs can place him on the DL to start the year and see if he can work things out in extended Spring Training. If he cooperates and says he's "injured" that would avoid the need to expose him to waivers and send him down.

Williams was a bit of a flake before he became a Cub. The Cubs picked him up as sort of a reclamation project, IIRC.
