While I'm indifferent about U of I in general, but given the douchebags like SouthSideRyan, Illiniguy, and Sulley and reading their thoughts...

Damn, didn't see this post. Ahh well.

Ping, are they really going to get rid of Gillespie?

I'm very happy U of I won the same number of tourney games this year as IU! I picked them to win, but lose to Gonzaga, so I don't really care bracketwise either.

I don't think so, but I wouldn't put it past them. I think it would be premature, but his 1st two years have been disappointments and there's probably more behind the scenes than more are letting on.

1 for 4 tonight is not going to get it done! Stupid CBS had to switch off from Duke getting annihilated. I really wanted to hear the announcers tell me how great Duke was over and over as they are getting blown out.

#2 in Roadkill, #174,174 nationally for me. I have the highest possible score among those who picked UNC to win it all, so if the Heels go all the way I could have my second Roadkill group championship.

Update: At this point, I'm thinking it's more likely at this point that Gillespie is gone. UK is in a money pinch as a University and it's only been two years but there's prob. too much conflict between Gillespie and the AD.

As far as candidates, I imagine Calipari is #1 on the board and if he stays at UM, maybe someone like Travis Ford at OSU or maybe Donovan at UF.

I can still dream about Pitino returning, can't I?

I'd be thrilled if his replacement is one of these 3...

It is odd that they went from a very good Xs and Os type of guy that is a bad recruiter with Tubby to a good recruiter but a bad in-game coach in Gillespie.

Sounds like what they really needed was Smith as head coach with Gillespie as top assistant in charge of recruiting.

Donovan would be a great choice if they can pry him away from Florida. Ford was a player on the team during part of the time I was at UK as a graduate student. Another possibility that comes to my mind is John Pelphrey (I'm not sure where he's at now). He was on the team around the same time as Ford (I don't remember if they overlapped any, but if not they were only a year or so apart).

No concern that Donovan hasn't even gotten back to the tournament since Horford, Brewer and Bozo the Clown turned pro?
Posted
Pelphrey is coaching at Arkansas and has done a pretty good job in a short amount of time. We'll see if they actually so go separate ways, it is a bit unfair to Gillespe only after two years but beyond the time needed to rebuild a program, he has not been an ideal person away from coaching and that matters under that microscope more than it should.

There is in my book.

He's similar to Gillespie to where he can recruit his ass off but he's a bad good in-game coach. Minus that stretch 4 years ago, UF consistently underachieves for the talent they have.

Donovan would be an upgrade, better recruiter and coach than Gillespie, but it would likely take Calipari or Wright to get me very excited about UK basketball again.

Gillespie is out.

Hopefully Calipari is called despite the odds of him ever leaving. Wright at Nova should be contacted, possible Mack Brown, Jeff Capel, as well as Donovan and Ford.

I'm definitely glad that it's appearing that Calipari will be the next UK coach. It'll be good to hopefully bring back some buzz back to UK, assuming he is the next coach. I will definitely disappointed if he is using UK to get a raise.

Will Calipari be bringing along World Wide Wes?
Posted

I'm sure he would, Wesley is close to Calipari and not the school itself.

The recent update is that...

UK has asked and been granted permission to speak to him, which has already occurred. Rumors have UK offering up to 6 mil. per year, it is looking like it is done.

Navin, this is what Wesley said today...

- Bozich talks to Calipari buddy “Worldwide Wes” who told him “What’s going to happen is going to be monumental for college basketball. It’s going to be exciting. It’s going to be great.” Bozich also said he’s heard that Wall and Cousins might not be too far behind.

I am thrilled about the potential of Calipari, he's who I wanted and his recruiting ability (as well as WWWes) is looking even more impressive. It's the 1st time in several years, I'm excited about UK basketball.

I still think Gillispie didn't deserve to get fired/bought out but if you have the chance to upgrade, you have to. Calipari>>>Gillispie.

Gillispie wouldn't have deserved to have been fired this quickly if winning and losing was the only issue. But if some of the rumored incidents are true I don't think he was the right person for the job. Maybe Barnhart didn't ask the right questions in the interview to determine Gillispie's attitude toward the job. In any event I think Cal is a very good choice. If they couldn't get Pitino to come back getting his protege is the next best thing.
