Time to make my usual trade offers to the newbie...

The newbie is required to make his first trade with the defending champion.

Thanks for the invite. Going to take me a couple days (weeks?) to even get up to speed on everything, so if I don't accept your trade offers immediately, that just means I hate you. ;)

It'll be personal when the rays face the sabermetrics. It'll be like the stats vs. scout debate at BA, but I come out ahead looking better than gary hughes.

Heh, great, now my team can't finish last, because I have an entire branch of baseball thinking to symbolize. :)

First newbie question(s):

- Where can I see how many fantasy points players are worth, so I can know who I can keep?

- Also, as per the "4 exemption years" thing, does that include major league service time only?

To see the points for your players go to the league page, then click on Stats. Scroll down until you see Custom Report. Then, in the drop-down menus select your team name, 2008 totals for the timeframe, MLB for Data Source (at the moment I think that's the only choice available anyway), and Standard for Stat Categories. Then click the Generate Custom Report button and you will get a report showing the 2008 points for the players on your roster, which is what the keeper limit is based on. Your 10 keepers must have a maximum of 2000 points (not including points for any players with at least one exemption remaining). And yes, the exemptions are based on major league time only; time in the minor leagues doesn't count against exemptions.

As far as a couple of your earlier questions are concerned, the deadline for choosing your 10 keepers and dropping the rest of your major league players is Feb. 14. I don't believe the draft date has been set yet.

Kevin,

Not sure where you got 4 exemption years as there are only 3. Did you read the rules stickied in this forum? That's a good place to start although there are some holes to be patched. I can help you with your roster this year.

Basically, you can keep a total of ten major leaguers and ten minor leaguers. The criteria for who can be on the minor league roster is in the rules. Exempt players count against your ten maximum but their points don't count toward the 2000 point limit. A player burns an exemption year any year they surpass the totals listed in the rules for plate appearance, starts, or pitching appearances (I would repeat those limits here but I would probably get them wrong).

The specifics are 50 or more plate appearances, 5 or more pitching starts, or 10 or more total pitching appearances.
