I see this stat used with hitters sometimes (it means Batting Average on Balls in Play, right?) to see how lucky a hitter is. But aren't all hits "in play?" Shouldn't BA be the same as BaBIP? Or do Home Runs/GRDs not count as in play?

I know homers don't count because I made the mistake of assuming that before as well.

home runs and strikeouts are not counted. I dont know about ground rule doubles, but no one player hits enough of those to make a difference anyway.
