Is there any chance we're the mystery team in the bidding for Furcal? Would be nice if we were, i would rather have furcal than bradley to be honest. Just wishful thinking but i'm wondering if anyone thought it was a possibly. I give it a 2 out 10 chance we're the mystery team. The only reason i give us any kind of chance is because the cubs wants a leady off hitter and left handed bat and they've showed interest in furcal in the past.

Also just to keep it on the peavy talks

I'm surprised no ones posted this article, If the padres were sold i would assume the new owner would want to keep peavy because he's the one superstar on that team. Thats if they get sold quick, i think they're selling process will be way faster than the Cubs but i doubt it will get done before spring training, but then again you may never know. In my opinion if they're sold, peavy is off the market cause i feel any owner coming in wont trade him.

No way the Cubs are going after Furcal.

Hendry needs his available money to get his LH right fielder. Plus he probably is not real thrilled with how he got yanked around last time Furcal was a FA and is most likely not in a big hurry to go through that again.

Yanked around?

The Dodgers topped his offer and MacPhail put the kibosh on upping the offer. Furcal and his agent bear no blame here.

If the Cubs sign Furcal, that will probably push Theriot into a platoon with Fontenot at 2nd, and move DeRosa to RF. More LH presence in the lineup and a better bat in RF seems to be the desire....

My recollection is that he seemed to lead Hendry on mostly just to have some leverage against the Dodgers in an effort to get the most he could from them.

Normal agent stuff really, not anything sinister, but still Furcal doesn't seem to have any real preference to play in Chicago which means that Hendry has to go in to an all out bidding war to get him and for the reasons mentioned above I don't see that he would be inclined to do so.

To tell the truth I like that move better than some others that have been discussed. Maybe it's because I'd like to see DeRo and Fontenot playing at the same time. Furcal would also give us a real leadoff hitter which is always nice.

A fascinating new player has emerged in the Rafael Furcal sweepstakes.

The Braves, Furcal's original team, want him to return.

"They're in deep," Furcal's agent, Paul Kinzer, told FOXSports.com on Monday night. "He's seriously considering it."

The A's still appear to have the high offer for Furcal — four years in the $40 million range, according to major-league sources.

The Braves, however, are believed to have offered three years and a vesting option, though Kinzer would not confirm the exact terms.

Furcal, 31, left the Braves after the 2005 season, signing a three- year, $39 million free-agent contract with the Dodgers. He still owns a home in the Atlanta area.

Will they then swap Escobar in a deal for Peavy? Does this make the Johnson for Ludwich rumors heat up again?

Furcal is going back to the Braves.

Which means the Braves will either re-open talks with the Padres for Peavy with Escobar as the chip, or the Braves will strongly consider the Kelly Johnson for Ryan Ludwick deal.

So this morning they are saying that the deal is not done and that the Dodgers have gotten back into talks with Furcal. (heard it on MLB radio so no link)
