I'd be furious if the Cubs traded seven guys for a setup man.

It wasn't 7 for 1, but regardless, giving up quantity doesn't really matter to me. I don't know a single one of those players. Anybody who wants quantity from the Cubs system can go right ahead and take it.

I thought Gutierrez is highly regarded?

According to the list provided Gutierrez didn't come from the Mets.

Wow, the Mets traded seven players for two relievers and an OF equivalent of Endy Chavez (who they traded away in the deal)?

And somehow this was a good trade for the Mets? I'd be furious if the Cubs traded seven guys for a setup man.

But you'd be okay with them trading 7 guys for a closer?

Yes, that's exactly what I said. What this thread really needed was a semantics argument.

I don't know that 7 players for a reliever is bad 100% of the time. Now 7 players for a reliever who had elbow trouble last year, posted a 1.597 WHIP when he was active, and only had 2 years of greatness to begin with is probably a bad idea. They also passed up a lot of free agent relievers, which would've cost a few million dollars more and 7 trading chips less. That seems pretty silly to me unless the Mets are up against a tight budget and think Putz puts them over the top.

Well that's why I asked. By sepcifying "setup man" instead of just saying reliever it sounded like you'd be oka ywith it if it were a closer
