It's is already a pretty hot topic and will likely be the highest debated topic all through the offseason and likely all next year so we mine-as-well get a poll started to see where the board stands.

My vote goes to Gregg. Having Marmol in a setup/when we desperately need an out role I think is invaluable. Smardzija I don't think is ready (could be wrong obviously) so that leaves Gregg. Gregg isn't the best but he gets the job done (ERA was right with Wood's). Gregg had five outings all year last year where he gave up multiple runs one less than Wood. He also had a below 3 ERA in all but one month last year. That month he gave up 12 of 26 earned runs for the year. His ERA excluding that month is 2.17 which is pretty darn good. My main worry about Gregg is his K-BB ratio and his WHIP.

We have a section for Polls, you know? It's in the Polls forum!

Oh, and none of them, we're going to steal the Necronomicon and bring Rod Beck back from the ashes of mother earth to ride eternal in the 9th inning of every Cubs lead

Nope didn't know that. Never noticed and this is the first poll I've done.

I don't think I ever started a thread in the poll forum before. I've posted on threads that are polls but I never look as to what forum they are in. I click new posts and post from there.

How about keeping the dscussion related to the actual poll topic instead of whether the thread starter knew that there is a polls forum?

Didn't know and thats the end of it.

As far as the results go I'm not too surprised that Gregg is the runaway although I am a little that Smardz has only two of 33 votes. I figured quite a few guys would want him to close and he would have close to as many as Marmol.

I'd rather have Samardzija make a smooth transition from middle reliever to 5th starter, rather than middle reliever to closer. If he remains effective, there's no point in wasting his ability in a 9th inning save situation. At least if you transition him to #5 starter and lose his contribution to the late innings, he still serves a major purpose pitching the first 5 or 6 rather than waiting for the run support to kick in and stay there till the 9th

Gregg should probably go there, even though with a pitcher like him no lead is really safe. Marmol will probably get it, but like someone said on here elsewhere, he'll probably be getting a lot of 2 inning save opportunities unless we can get a good reliever to replace the void left by Wood.

I wonder if the Angels would ask for a King's ransom in exchange for Scot Shields

Gregg's gonna be horrible, I just know it

I see him becoming Eric Gagne when Gagne went to Boston from Texas

minus the massive contract though

Actually in 2009 Gregg will make close to what Gagne made in 2007

I just hope Gregg gets off to a good start because if he doesn't I think fans will turn pretty quick since he will be filling Wood's shoes. Coming from Florida I'm not sure he can withstand a home team that boos him. Then again maybe coming from Florida he will be sued to home fans not cheering for him.

Suing fans for not cheering, that's a new one. :D

I should sue MLB for allowing Florida to still have a baseball team.
