Could Beane use Holliday in another trade to get something(s) he actually wants?

Prolly not. The players that Beane used on Holliday are players who he sold high on (or reasonably high on) and players who ae likely not in the A's plan. He traded for Holliday for the purpose that his offense can help the team's offense which in terms can allow their pitching to developed quicker in 2009. If Beanes trades Holliday it will be at the deadline.

Why does this offseason have the feeling that the trades that are happening so far are a direct result of crazy GM meeting lost football game bets.

While hes a great addition to the anemic A's offense, hes not enough to make that team a contender. However, Beane knows what hes doing, and Im very curious to see what his next steps are. The fact that he gave up 2 top prospects suggests that hes not building for the future here, and plans on contending sooner than later.

Hey, I 'll be sure to say "Hi" to Mr Holliday for all you fans. Just wanted to add that Mr Beane's not done yet and standby for more. :yahoo:

You know the A's aren't competing next year...right?

the A's weren't exactly terrible this year though

i wouldn't be surprised if they stole a playoff berth next season

And the Angels weren't as good as their record last year with a couple big FAs on their team(even though Rodriguez wasn't as great as his saves total said, he was still a damn good closer)
