Hes going to need to work on som off speed stuff before he'll have any kind of success as a starter.

I thought he had about 4 pitches?

Yes, but none of them reliable. The only pitch that really stands out is his fastball.

Absolutely the right decision. Hope they have enough depth to start him at AAA.

So right now, he has an effective Splitter and Fastball right?

So what about a good or at least decent slider and changeup, could that make him a quality starter?

He has a good slider, needs more work on both his split and slider.

The change needs work to become average, imo.

I like the idea of trading Marmol and selling high for once.

I like the idea of blowing tons of games next year.

Are you serious, selling high?

Let's trade Geo too while he still has some value.

Yeah, talking about trading a reliever is the same as talking about trading your catcher.

No but I mean if we are building a team to win next year why would we trade the pitcher who was just about the best statistical reliever in baseball year? It's not like we are to expect him to decline suddenly next year. Everyone knows bullpens are a crapshoot, so if you can find a consistently dominating one, you gotta keep him because without him our bullpen becomes a major question mark.

especially one that's still cost controlled.

Because of that you could spin a reliever as a big part of a deal ideally for a position player or a starting pitcher. Personally, I'd prefer that and take the gamble on someone in the organization stepping up next year out of the bullpen.

If they keep him, great, but I don't really get hung up on keeping a reliever.

How many openings in the starting rotation are we likely to have? Does is seem that Demp being gone is more likely to happen than not?

There's a difference in selling high on a reliever after a good season, and trading away a very good pitcher. Marmol isn't a reliever because he failed at starting, he has phenomenal stuff and he's had great success relieving for 2 years and 155 IP. If someone wants to sell the farm to make Marmol their closer of the future, that's definitely alright with me. But that's got nothing to do with selling high, it's just letting people overvalue a good player.

Exactly.

I don't get this sentiment that all relievers are expendable. What if the Yanks sold high on Rivera?

Rivera is an amazing, once in a lifetime player. It is highly unlikely that Marmol is another Rivera.
