Did you watch the Canada-Russia game? Hickey looked really bad. Trying to do way too much and making some unnecessary pinches. Only one game though.

I haven't been able to watch any of it. I don't care too much about his play in one game though. Like you said, only one game. Russia is probably the second best team in the tournament anyway, so meh.

How did Teubert look? I'm far more intrigued by him than I am by Hickey.

Lets go Rangers!

Wonder what Sid the Kid will get away with tonight after they get pummeled, again.

Can't wait til tomorrow! Boulton vs Crosby!

Lollll 4-0 and I think 9 PPs by the end of the game.

Godard tried to start a fight with Orr with 2:30 left and he left his helmet on, what a [expletive]. Orr was destroying him til he hurt his hand in a haymaker to Godard.

despite the refs' best efforts, we beat the wild 3-1 tonight. we were shorthanded for 15 minutes; they were shorthanded for 8 seconds. joke.

Hawks had 1 PP and suffered a penalty after a homer puck drop... THOSE DAMN REFS.

and yeah, the Versteeg Calder talk can be put to bed already. he's playing for 2nd place at this point.

bobby ryan is from the town i grew up in! (notable because south jersey is not exactly a hockey hotbed)

Crosby vs. Ovechkin is the only thing that matters to the NHL tonight... wonder if they know any other games are scheduled?

yeah, i don't know why anybody would want to watch two of the top five players in the game, averaging like 21 years old, facing off against each other

on another unrelated note, Pavel Datsyuk's the best player in the NHL right now

on top of that, it's just a good matchup between two very good teams (even if the pens are sliding right now). that was a fun game to watch and it's a game/matchup the NHL should be marketing. but, unfortunately, it was on a wednesday night so versus can't carry it :(

plus, malkin and semin are pretty good too.

also, tomas fleischmann is finally breaking out in the NHL. aside from the 15 goals (i think), he just looks excellent with the puck and has all year long. the goal against the oilers the other night was terrific. he's a very slick stickhandler.

the game between the Caps and the Pens was very good. I watched that one instead of the Hawks. It was carried on Yahoo. I think the Crosby stuff is over-hyped, but that kind of stuff is done in every sport. Sadly what it does is create casual Crosby fans instead of NHL fans.

Magnum...I dont know if Datsyuk is the best player in the NHL. He is very dominate and I wonder why he doesnt get marketed more. No matter what you think of him he probably is the most exciting player to watch in hockey and usually makes at least one top ten play every game. You would think the NHL would be putting him in the spotlight a little more.

i think ovechkin is probably the most "exciting" player, but datsyuk is probably a better all-around player.

datsyuk isn't marketed because he isn't particularly marketable. he's not talkative or a good quote -- and he's russian -- so he doesn't get press. it's a shame, but as you say, it happens in every sport.

so how will the kings blow tonight's game against the wings? should be interesting.

Ahhhhh!

Just came across the last good line brawl I've seen again tonight... the good ol' 2/22 massacre of the Sabres vs. Sens:

This is truly a classic.

EDIT: I love Rick Jeanerette.

The Senators goalie absolutely unloaded on the Sabres goalie

On a related note, it looks like Ray Emery is playing his way back into the NHL over there in Russia.

Also, does anyone else think its insane that Sean Avery is basically kicked out of the NHL for the season because Morrow/Turco/Modano are a bunch of pansy pushovers who couldn't tell him to shutup in the locker room? Shanahan and Jagr could handle him fine. Same with the veterans in Detroit. I guess all the talk about Morrow being the greatest leader ever can be discounted.

what suggests that the veterans in detroit liked him (besides Hull)? he got traded to the kings, after all. then he got run off the team there on two occasions. then, despite all of the success with him in the lineup and cap room coming off the books thanks to said veterans, he wasn't re-signed by the rangers.

he's run out of the league because despite what veterans say to him, he doesn't listen. he puts himself ahead of the team and it cost him his job. i don't get any complaining about this.

It's not about liking him, it is about being able to keep him from being a negative influence on the team. Overall, Avery helped more than he hurt in Detroit and NY. I'm sure he could be a positive influence in the right situation again. It's just if a team has no real veteran leaders with the balls to keep him in line, he becomes a locker room cancer.

avery played half of 2 seasons in detroit and scored 15 points. i don't think he helped much there. ultimately he got run out of LA twice, where he may have been a good player, but was still a destructive influence. new york, he clearly helped the team on the ice but he still wasn't brought back. it's not surprising that he's been run out of ANOTHER city. why would anyone else take a chance on him, at that point?

washington/boston starts in a few minutes, should be a great game.
