K.Hill for backup over Blanco. Although I would like the Cubs to get creative and find a backup that can actually hit so Lou will Geo a break more next season.

You want a catcher that tips pitches?

Also Hank did hit .292 last year.

blanco is a tough call...

he was probably the nicest story for the team this past season considering his medical issues the previous season

although, my friend thinks he looks like a baby killer

I'd probably offer Blanco 1.5m tops, and hopefully he takes it after overpaying him a bit the last few years, especially with him missing most of 07. I know saving 1.5m isn't a big deal, but that 1.5m could go towards signing a LH reliever or a 6th-7th inning RH reliever, that this team could use. If Blanco decides to go somewere else, then we can possibly sign one of these catchers for 1m or less.

It all stemmed from one game the last week of the season. Samardzija was on the mound, and on every offspeed pitch Hill stretched out. He stayed straight up on every fastball. I didn't see any evidence that he was tipping anybody else's pitches, and that's the only inning I've seen him catch Jeff. I don't think it's a big concern.

Wilson sucks. Ross might be interesting. Zaun is likely to find a team that might give him plenty of starts. Redmond is likely to be reupped by Minnesota (he's their Blanco). Estrada sucks and has a bad attitude. So if I had to chose from this list it would be between Ross (who add good power to the bench) and Zaun, if all things are equal.

But all of these is moot simply because the Cubs are likely to re-sign Blanco.
