Was Zambrano that dominant?

"No," manager Cecil Cooper said "It was a long travel day and Hurricane Ike. And having two days off. Not saying he wasn't good, but this was a pretty tough circumstance."

I didn't see the game, just the outs. It sure didn't look like Houston made much solid contact at all, so Z must have had something going for him. How many times did an Astro hit the ball directly into the ground in front of home plate?

Want a new ballpark Carlos? Win the damn series this year.

I'm going to shed tears if they ever tear Wrigley down. I'll shed approximately 50% less if it's after a World Series win.

I want to take my son to at least one game at Wrigley, just so he can have that feeling that I had when my dad took me for my first game.

In my dream world we'd get both. The Cubs would build a new stadium but Wrigley wouldn't be tore down. Instead it could become the defacto Chicago Cubs museum and otherwise be used by youth sports and/or college and high school teams. With the Cubs continuing to play a series or two per season there.

But then I generally wake up and it's time for work. :(

Lots of excuses coming from the Astros this morning.

But I suppose they've got a point. They apparently all had to go home, clean out their houses and fridges & stuff, then were delayed on the way to the airport, and wound up not getting into Milwaukee until a short time before the game.

So I can understand that they went through a hellish day.

Can't remember the GM's name, but he said Z's stuff looked very dominant so I guess he & Cecil don't totally agree on that point.

The Cubs better win the World Series before they tear down Wrigley. If they ever move out of there, it might just cause me to stop caring.

Seriously?

Did it ever occur to you that the Cubs have never won a WS at Wrigley? Maybe that's been the problem all along. :-"

Seriously?

Yes, seriously. The Cubs without Wrigley Field just wouldn't be the Cubs to me.

Wow.

Even more puzzling about this is the fact that you don't even live anywhere near Chicago...

Even if you did, though, I still wouldn't get it.

I'm probably one of the biggest fans of the Cubs getting a new ballpark (ideally where Cabrini Green is right now, with the skyline behind the outfield, and tons of parking), but I can't really see a situation where Wrigley would be torn down. It would be too profitable as a tourist attraction and its use for a variety of sporting events and concerts.

I was born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, so I have spent many a day at Wrigley. Personally, I don't understand how anyone could not love Wrigley that much. It is legendary, a baseball icon. I'm not even a Red Sox fan but I would be pissed if they tore down Fenway. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I like the history of great old ballparks like these. It's more than just a game to me. Would you be OK if they took away the pinstripes? Or changed their colors to green or orange? There are some things that should not be messed with.

Same here. I root for the team, not Wrigley. The Cubs are the Cubs no matter where they play. I'd definitely like to see parts of Wrigley (scoreboard, beachers, biks, ivy, marquee sign) go to a new stadium if its ever built, but I'm all for the Cubs getting a nice new stadium with modern facilities and, especially, a retractable roof.

Lots of people feel that way though. It's not like that's an unusual opinion.

I know I'm a little late to the celebration, but I've got to throw in my two cents on this one:

:yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :clapping:   :good:  :) \:D/  :D) =D>

This is freaking awesome!!! The only thing that tops this in my mind is a World Series win. Though turning on Woody's 20K game in the bottom of the ninth after school was pretty incredible.

Isn't Wrigley Field on the National Register of Historic Places, and can't be torn down now? Eventually, I know the Cubs will be forced into a new ballpark. I'll still support em and I'll still find ways to go to games in St. Louis, Houston, etc.

Change isn't always bad. They've tried things and then taken them away (Removing the names from the jerseys.) New technology has worked (How about them lights?). Honor the old, but embrace the new. I'm all for a new stadium. But then, I'm not as stuck on "tradition" as most. I'd be perfectly ok with them replacing home plate umps with Questec or something like it. Enforce the strike zone correctly. I'm all for replay on any controversial play. Baseball can honor it's past without being stuck in it.
