I was swimming most of the game, but I was in my car for the last part. Immediately when I turned the radio on, Lee grounded out to end the 8th. Then, Kerry came on and gave up a double, and Lee threw to third after a bunt. After Pat said that he was safe at third, I was about to go crazy, but then all of a sudden he yelled, "HE'S OUT! HE'S OUT! HE OVERSLID THE BAG!!" That was a great moment, but it was immediately followed up by a single. That was when I turned my radio off cause I couldn't take it anymore. When I turned it back on, the postgame was on and you can usually tell the result by Pat's voice. He didn't sound down, so I knew they won!

Weird that bad things started happening from the moment I turned on the radio....

In a close game, I never turn on the radio during the game if I haven't already been listening. It's bad mojo to shift things like that.

Whoa! Think of this crazy scenario.

Brewers get swept by Phils. Cubs/Stros entire series is rained out and pushed to after the season.

Both magic numbers would be 8, but the Brewers would still be 1.5 up on HOU. If the Brewers lose another and the Astros win another, the Brewers would be still leading by 0.5 game over HOU, but would have one more loss. So the division magic number would be 7 and the "playoff spot" magic number would be 8. Say they both match each other win-for-win for the rest of the year.

The Cubs could clinch the division BEFORE they clinch the "PLAYOFF SPOT" (really the WC) WITH the best record in the league! I bet that has never happened before.

That's impossible. (Assuming you're not including Philly in this scenario.) We can't clinch the division while there's still a team in our division we haven't eliminated yet.

You're right. I used the wrong wording. We could eliminate the 2nd place team before we eliminate the 3rd place team.

In close games (especially the 9th) I usually turn the TV off or turn the channel and peek on the progress of the inning on my laptop or pace all over the house. My Wife thinks I'm crazy.....

In the 9th last night I got up and paced around the living room like I haven't since last October. This is going to be fun...

Nah, that doesn't make anybody here crazy soul, the thing that makes us crazy, is our choice of rooting for the Cubs. We know the Cubs are going to break our hearts, but we still cheer for them....That's crazy.
