there are like 7 options better than giving K-Rod $75m

maybe 70, honestly.

a 120 pound closer with a violent delivery and numbers trending the wrong way? where do i sign?

I would agree with the 7 not 70...The guys numbers might be getting worse, but getting 55 saves means your doing something right.

Saves are the new RBI

I think there are some bargains out there to be had. Some enterprising team might want to buy low on Juan Cruz on a multiyear deal and make him their closer. Brian Fuentes will probably cost like 35-40% of what K-Rod will.

He's an intricate part of the Angels' sucess the last few years, including their WS title. They have a large budget and could afford to keep him, and he's seemingly happy there. Yet, there do not seem to be any plans to bring him back next year.

Apparently, the Angels share your concerns, or there wouldn't even be any discussions of K-Rod hitting the FA market.

He's one of the best closers in baseball....Am I saying he should make 15 a year...no way!!!! No relief pitcher should be making that money, but he's still one of the best in baseball at what he does

I would say he's pretty good at it. What I like about him isn't his ability to dominate, because he's merely slightly above average in that regard. What I do like about him is that he is very, very consistant at being as effective as he is.

Juan Pierre is a very, very consistant leadoff hitter.

Gotta give it up to KRod for choosing to be on a team with an average offense but good starting pitching so they play in a lot of one, two and three run games to give him a ton of save opportunities.

True, but he's ineffective. In my original post, I left out one important phrase. I meant to say "I'd say he's pretty good at it, but I wouldn't go as far as to say he's one of the best in baseball...." KRod is fairly effective, and he seems to avoid periods like Marmol had just before the break and like Wood has had recently. That's how I see him. Certainly not a 10mil + closer though.

If this should be in Cubs discussion, plz move.

I read this today and thought two things:

1.) If we resign Wood, it better be for MR.

2.) Why sign K-Rod for 5yr/$75M if we have this guy you might have heard of.... his name is Carlos Marmol. Argueably the best MR pitcher in baseball. I am sure there is a really good stat to back that up, but I just don't have time for that.

...wtf is MR?

With Sheets, Sabathia, and Gagne leaving town to free up a lot of money, and the Brewer's constant bullpen howryness, could the Brewers look to add him?

Not saying it'd be smart, but it seems like it'd make at least a bit of sense.

I would absolutely love it (not that I see a chance in hell of that happening) if the Brewers gave all the cash they free up to Francisco Rodriguez.

me too. them replacing two great starters with a very good reliever would be fantastic.
