It was awesome, but now it's tainted. I enjoyed the moment, but that's all it was.

I may be a baseball heretic, but after a few years of consideration, I have come to realize that I really don't care that over half the league was 'roided up during that era. I have tried, but I just don't care. It was a load of fun and I don't feel the least bit guilty about enjoying the hell out of it.

I hate Bonds, but that has a lot less to do with his PED use than the fact that he is a paranoid, racist megalomaniac.

Oh, and if some team takes McGwire back and Bonds still can't get a job, can you imagine the righteous indignation that Bonds would lay on everyone? I can scarcely conceive of it.

If that happened, Bonds should look into suing MLB about collusion between the league and teams to keep him out. I'd think he would have a pretty good case.

Except for the fact that McGwire doesn't have a federal indictment hanging over his head.

I was in England for two weeks in June of '98, the month when Sosa hit 20 HR. With little access to what was going on back in the States, I relied on my Dad's daily phone calls...it seemed like Sammy hit a HR every night.

The other memory that stands out was when Sosa hit numbers 61 and 62 against the Brewers at Wrigley. The look on my Dad's face (and my Mom's happy tears) was priceless, and a baseball moment we'll share for enternity.

Of course the Wild Card playoff game against the Giants was fun as well. Trachsel going 6 hitless innings...the Gaetti HR...and Shooter getting Joe Carter to pop up to end the game. I ended up going to game 3 of the NLDS at Wrigley, which in itself was largely forgettable outside the fact I got to see a Cubs playoff game in person.

That was a fun season, although a bit tainted now.

I remember he tied the "homers in a month" record on my Dad's 50th birthday. I believe he homered in Detroit, if I'm not mistaken.
