Or does it seem like the Chicago sportswriters have been waiting for any reason whatsoever to start writing all this negative crap about the team? It's really starting to piss me off.

All I know is the Chicago sports media sucks (Bruce Miles withstanding, who I actually do make a point to read).

Of course LA sports media is garbage garbage garbage.

I don't know, maybe sports media in general is awful?

Why are you reading it?

I haven't looked at the papers since Sunday or Saturday...

Same here. I never read the paper when they are losing. just pisses me off more.

Same goes for sports radio. Sometimes I give in and listen on my drives, but I always regret it when the moron brigade starts calling in

I'm in Texas, so it's not easy for me to get Cubs news here. I make a habit of checking certain sites for news every day and you can't help but see the headlines. Or someone posts about it on here. It's like I seek this stuff out.

Yes. Mainstream, at least.

The great thing about the internet is that it's made better sources (and worse, obviously) of information available to everyone.

Would this whole baseball enlightenment period have ever moved as much as it has without it?

Not a chance. I picked up pretty much all my statistical inclination from here and BTF. I never even heard of Bill James until the internet.

When we are losing I pretty much tend to shut down all of the sports news I would normaly pay attention to. If Im looking for Cubs news I just come here. Like with the Zambrano story, Ive been sitting on pins and needles waiting for word but I havent gone looking for it on the Chicago sites cause I figure there is alot of negative stuff, and I know as soon as something comes out someone will post it here (and sure enought they did).

Yeah, I'd say the same for me.

The media is fine. Fans are overly sensitive to negative coverage of their own team.

Not really, but OK.

Go read some newspaper articles about baseball and tell me any of them (with FEW exceptions) are worth a crap.

The mainstream sports/baseball media is still dominated by archaic thinking and sensationalism.

Agreed, but so is baseball fandom and the industry of baseball. No reason to single out the media on that one.

Last night on the radio some guy said that Soriano not being able to bunt will keep this team from winning in the playoffs. Seriously, he said that.

That should be grounds for losing your sports radio job. No exceptions.

I think they're all trying to fill the "sky is falling" void that Mariotti left.

Yeah, he's gotta be upset he's no longer writing for the Sun Times. This past week would've been his moment to shine. An opportunity to bash a Chicago sports team? That's Mariotti's wet dream.

I can picture it now. He'd say this team is showing it's true colors these past few games, and he'd try to explain why they aren't built for October. He'd say Lou is a terrible manager for running Z into the ground. He'd call out Hendry for going after another injury riddled pitcher in Harden. He'd call Z soft and say he should pitch through it. And then for no reason, he'd bash the White Sox and Ozzie just for a sense of symmetry.

Am I the only one that's gonna miss Mariotti's pro-Cuban campaign? He was really the only voice in any of the papers pushing for Cuban and getting the word "out there."

I realize Cuban doesn't need any more publicity, but I liked that someone was reminding people about him as a potential Cubs owner. Hell, a lot of the local media is actually against the team going to him.

haha...they were spewing that nonsense on Tribune Live the other night. their only explinations for him not bunting was that either the "$136 man" is too selfish, or his manager is "afraid" to ask him to bunt. what a joke.
