in the playoffs and placing some bets against the Cubs in each series.

Odds should pay out decent for betting against since we'll be favorites in any of the first two series.

If we won it'd be like I paid for the victory, and if we lost the winnings would soften the blow somewhat.

Thoughts?

I almost did this in 03, but I was too young and couldn't figure out how to do it online in time...

I hate to agree with you, but love your ideas.

Yeah I think I'm going to bodog it too. I wish I was older and could afford to put a huge amount of money on it. Either way you're going to win.

Given our chances, I don't think I'd want to put a HUGE amount on it... but I'd put a decent amount.

Yay for subjective terms

i REALLY wanted to buy cardinals insurance (throwing fifty bucks on the cardinals at the beginning of the postseason) in 06, but i never got around to it.

follow through on your dreams, dave.

That idea makes me feel dirty, but damn if I don't see the sense in it:

Cubs lose, and you can go on a nice vacation to help soothe the soul and forget about baseball for the rest of the year

or

Cubs win, and you - like so many - can die a happy man.

I'm not about to start betting against the Cubs but I'm not expecting them to win the World Series either. Considering the up in the air crazy-ness that is the playoffs, they have slightly better than a 1/8 chance to win.

So anything they win is just gravy to me. I would love to see them beat the D-Backs though.

As a pretty frequent better, my advice would be to not do this. Yes, good idea on paper, but money skews all sports affiliations. Thats why I never bet against the Cubs. Do you really want money to potentially change your experience when the Cubs are in the playoffs. Do what you need to do, but if you have money on the opposition, part of you is going to be rooting for the Cubs to lose.
