You figure that dumb newspaper columnists at least use AVG/HR/RBI. Apparently Rozner uses nothing, as Rammy is better than Soto in all of those.

That was the worst article I've ever seen. How about some stats or some quotes or anything? What a hack. It's absolutely inconceivable that Rozner is the main guy for even the 3rd newspaper in town. He should be toiling away in a town the size of Peoria, at best.

i also like how he says the cubs wanted ramirez to "pay attention on defense" - suggesting that he's made great strides this season on defense. he was one of the top 5 defensive 3b last year.

rozner, you suck.

Most Improved?

I realize who I'm talking about, but has Rozner not been paying attention the last 4 years? ARam is doing pretty much what he's been doing since he's been a Cub. Although he did run really hard on that easy groundout last week, so that must be the difference. He's hustling on outs now.

Geez, this guy has a job covering the Cubs?

He doesn't cover the Cubs, he's a columnist. And a bad one.

Ah, my bad, I've only read a few of his stories, and haven't been impressed with any.

I assume this thread should be about a BACKhanded compliment, unless compliments from lefties are apparently evil, what with them using the devil's hand and all.

Well said. This article was about as bad as any I've ever seen, even from Rozner.

>> any objective observer could clearly see a player [ARam] who cared more about himself and his stats than anything else.

No, Barry, any objective observer can clearly see a sportswriter who doesn't pay attention, and cares more about perpetuating false stereotypes and brainless cliches than anything else. Probably acting out on some kind of personal grudge too.

I know it was already quoted in the thread, but this sentence in particular pisses me off. "Any objective observer could clearly see..."? WHAT? Not only is that complete BS, not only is it an enormous and unwarranted insult to Aramis, but it's also an insult to anyone who thinks otherwise (which, I'll add, is anyone who believes that people can't read minds).

This one also pissed me off, although it's just more of the same:

What the Cubs needed was for Ramirez to pay attention on defense, run the bases hard, and have a plan on offense beyond trying to pad his own stats.

He later goes on to suggest that Ramirez didn't care about winning very much until this year, which I have a hard time believing.

What a tool.
