Wow, this is bush league:

The Cubs had lost their last 10 games in the Sunshine State, including a three-game series this year in Tampa Bay, and had not won a game in Florida since July 10, 2005. The folks at Dolphin Stadium decided to poke fun at the Cubs, and added a goat and a black and white photo of the 1908 team behind the players' images on the scoreboard.

LOL, like that fanbase has room to poke fun @ anyone?

They've been in existence for 16 years and have already matched us for all-time World Series victories.

Well, the Cubs won two of the first five World Series and we all know what happened after.

Man, I leave to go play poker with the score 5-3, and come back to see the Cubs win with a go ahead HR in the 9th by Ward. Hell. Freaking. Yes.

When was the last time the Cubs were 28 games over 500?

Any chance you have video of the Len/Bob call?

That's beyond me, particularly since the online video feed (and thus any official highlight clips from Cubs.com) was the Marlins feed by virtue of them being the home team.

I can tell you that CSN is doing the game encore right now. It just started, so they should be to the 9th by... sunrise, maybe?

Ron Santo is the worst announcer in the Major Leagues.

Not accurate on either count.

For one, he's not an announcer, he's a color analyst. There's no question he'd be absolutely terrible as a play-by-play man, but as a color analyst, his analysis may be wonky but there's no doubt he brings color to the broadcast. He's the shouting fan inside the booth; he's the player who's seen this franchise do what they do for the better part of the last 50 years or so, and he brings every one of those memories with him to the microphone. You can hear the highlight I posted; the broadcasts simply aren't the same without him. I think that with any other PBP man but Pat, Ron simply wouldn't work, but by this point the two have worked together long enough that they play off of each other perfectly.

For another thing, there are worse by far. Just look to the TV booth on the other side of town if you need an example. Listen to a Pirates TV broadcast, particularly against the Cubs. ("If Sean Burnett can shut 'em down right here, the offense can get him his first win since 2004. And the 0-2 to Johnson... oh no... no, no, NO!") As insane as he is, Ron isn't afraid to call out Cubs players when they screw up blatantly. He's not the worst broadcaster among the 30 MLB teams at all.

For one more thing, he's resting all this road trip anyway, so we won't hear him again until Tuesday.

I'm calling a Ward bomb

Just for posterity...

And on the other side of the predictions spectrum...

I'm not feeling good about Ward here. In fact, I'm feeling a DP.

I really hope he proves me wrong, but he hasn't done much this year to make me think I'll be wrong.

I guess for long term cubs fans, nostalgia plays a significant role in liking Ron Santo, but seriously. Yeah, he gets excited when good stuff happens. That's really the only thing positive that I can think of, though. Any commentary he does is usually terrible and he fumbles over his own words. Also, please God count the number of times he says "YAH!" in one broadcast. It's annoying.

I love how this team's one obvious weakness (winning on the road) is being exposed as a fluke. This team should be able to beat anybody, anywhere.

espn.com says this is the 10th straight road win... that's incorrect, right?

i like how the cubs were a daryle ward home run away from "if zambrano goes into a month long slump the brewers can easily catch us" and "we're choking" but instead it's "this team should be able to beat anybody, anywhere."

Cubs.com game wraps are known to have links to video highlights of some of their games.
