From what I understand, its going to be Z on Friday, Marshall on Saturday, with Demp being pushed back to Sunday, either to give him an extra day or because he has personal issues he needs to take care of on Saturday.

I know there has been confusion, so I figured to make a thread to answer it.

What's the word for next week? I wouldn't mind giving Harden a break. Marquis and Lilly can go on 5 days rest Tues/Wed vs. Cincy. Z on 5 days rest Thursday. Then you can throw Harden and Dempster in there any way you like.

Harden has pitched on extended rest the last two times out and he hasn't fared as well (though that still meant one fairly rough game and one good, but not excellent, game). I'd just pitch him on the regular 4 day rest and see how he does.

Harden's pitching Tuesday.

Manager Lou Piniella also hinted that Jason Marquis could be skipped next time through the rotation against Cincinnati despite the right-hander's back-to-back wins, including a good performance Wednesday against Atlanta.

Piniella would confirm only that Rich Harden would open the Reds series Tuesday before backing away from his plans beyond that.

''Let's just leave it at that,'' he said, ''and save the pitching coach a headache.''
