Jim Duquette is the guy who traded Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano, it doesn't surprise me that he's too dumb to realize Volquez isn't a rookie.

Speaking of the ROTY candidates, there was a thread about whether or not Jurrjens would get it over Soto.

Is Jorge Campillo considered a rookie? I know he pitched on three different occasions in the past, but he only has like 17IP over those three MLB stints. He's been better than Jurrjens this year.

So wait. I didn't think Volquez was a rookie either but I looked at his BR page to check it out. He pitched 34 innings in 06 and 33 in 07. I know 50 IP is the cutoff for qualifying for ROY or whatever. Is it a running total over the course of numerous seasons? Otherwise I can't figure out why he wouldn't be a rookie.

No... first of all besides the debate that he's not a rookie... Soto is winning it, regardless.

A player shall be considered a rookie unless, during a previous season or seasons, he has (a) exceeded 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the major leagues; or (b) accumulated more than 45 days on the active roster of a major league club or clubs during the period of a 25-player limit (excluding time in the military service).

I'm assuming it's the more than 45 days part that gets him. He's never gone past 50IP.

But it says during the period of a 25-player limit, which is before September. In 06 he was on the team for 55 games or so when he was up for August and September, but the 25 player limit is dropped in September, right? I'm officially confused

Doesn't matter. The first part says "exceeded 50 innings pitched in the major leagues" and Volquez had 80 coming into this year. It doesn't say "in one season" so I would assume that to mean 50 career innings pitched, which he has surpassed.

My first thought is that it was cumulative IP, not just one season, but then I began questioning myself, so I wasn't sure.
