I agree with Olcycz...Conklin was the difference, plus Versteeg just blowing that shot when the score was 1-0. I dont think 4-0 was a good indication of how this game really was. I do think the Hawks got frustrated and didnt play nearly as well from the mid of 2nd on.

I dont watch as much Blackhawk hockey as you guys. I know Detroit is a hard team to get good hits on, but I noticed that the Hawks arent really that physical of a team. Also as good as Conklin was, they really didnt put pressure on him after the shots. They seem to just make some good plays to set up shots and than dont attack the net when the shot is taken, especially on the PP. As good as Conklin was tonight, how often was he looking through a screen or fighting to keep a rebound from an attacking forward? 2 of Detroits goals were caused by these kind of plays.

Sucks when Ty Roy never gave up a rebound :(

Sorry... It's hard for me to admit my golden team finally got dominated... leave me alone!

Thats cool I certainly understand. He would probably have given more rebounds if the Hawks had more pressure directly in front of him. It is those types of things that make a huge difference in the playoffs. I dont know how the Hawks can work it in their cap, but picking up a power forward who can do the dirty work in front of the net may be a good trade deadline investment.

I really wish we could make that happen but I think we have if we're lucky 5 cents to our name (I may be giving us too much credit, we might actually have overdraft fees). Only way to get ANYTHING at the deadline is to offload Havlat and/or Bulin's contract.

Just a few notes for folks with NHL Network. Pre-game coverage starts at 10:00am tomorrow, and also tomorrow night at 5:30 they are airing a show called "Voices" featuring Pat Foley. Not really sure what that one is, but I'm sure it will have a lot of cool Hawks highlights.

Alright well lets get back on track and beat a team that were a little better than and prove that 9 game winning streak wasn't a fluke

Perhaps the WC thread should be merged back into this one now. I never really thought it needed a separate thread, but whatever.

Not to state the obvious, but a big losing streak would be really bad right now. The Hawks have that awful road trip coming up, and I'd like to see them stay above water at home until that trip.

The Winter Classic drew a 2.9 overnight TV rating up 12% over last year's winter classic. It drew a 11.8 rating in Chicago and a 10.5 rating in Detroit. It was the 4th highest rating for an NHL on NBC telecast (Behind 3 Stanley Cup Final games) and it was the highest TV rating for a regular season NHL game in over a decade.

Going to Mokena tomorrow to redeem my Christmas present of an authentic Hawks jersey from Triple Threat Sports.

I've been leaning towards either a Versteeg or Sharp jersey...

My question to you hockey experts, because I don't know where to look or even understand the financial side of hockey, is this:

How long do you think either player will be on the Hawks? I really want a Versteeg jersey but I am wondering what the chances are he is on the team long term?

It's pretty interesting with the Hawks. They're a young team, but they have some gawdy contracts. A lot of that is cleared up with Havlat and Khabi moving out, but Toews and Kane and even Keith are gonna need to get paid too. Kind of an interesting situation there. Cap is probably heading down either this year or next, too. So Sharp, despite having a contract, could be the odd man out. The Huet/Campbell signings kind of hamstrung the Hawks for the future. If they could ditch Huet and still keep a legit number 1 (how good is Niemi?), that would be the best solution, but probably the most unlikely as well.

Niemi is awesome, I've been looking forward to him since he played in Finland (my old roomate was a huge fan of his in Helsinki)... and he's shown great promise in Rockford. However, Crawford has stepped up when Niemi has cooled off a bit.

What about versteeg?

i think he's going to be on the team, but i'm still curious to see if his production is going to keep up.

This is why I'm not a big fan of buying jerseys of current players. My only Cubs jersey is a Santo BP jersey I bought off ebay a few years ago. If I bought a Hawks jersey, I'd want Secord, Larmer or Magnuson. Timeless stuff.

You just never know how long guys are gonna be around. And I like Versteeg, but who's to say he's not playing the best hockey he'll ever play right now. You could be that guy (and you know there was at least one) wearing a Ryan Leaf jersey to the Chargers playoff game tonight.

Akim Aliu traded back to Sudbury for a draft pick.

(LFP Official Twitter)

"He got benched prior to the Christmas break and hasn't responded properly (how shocking), I would bet his time is up as a Knight. The kid's got all the tools but is just a nightmare for coaches to deal with. People can change but Akim has been very stubborn for four years about changing his ways."

Also, Kane out tonight with that ankle injury. Eager taking his spot on the 1st line.

No offense to Eager, because I like him a lot... but... Why Eager?

What a pretty play.. 1-0, Havlat squeaked it by.

Good start for the Hawks.

They had a couple good chances earlier to make it at least 2-0. Good to see them coming out fiery after 2 tough losses.
