Some interesting quotes in Rozner's column today:

A lukewarm endorsement of DT?

Kind of backs up what redivycub says about him being a douchebag. He's all talk and show, with the no-casual dress nonsense. He is smart to say nobody is happy with where they are and that they are on their own 2 yard line, but it's all talk. Its smart marketing man talk, but it's largely meaningless.

I think guys like him are almost douchebags by definition. It may be all "talk," but it's what makes him successful. Now, I'm not saying turning around the Hawks took a rocket scientist. It was pretty freaking obvious what needed to be done and he did it. But just the same, he's good at what he does.

I don't think it's what makes him successful at all. It's what appears to make him successful. The Blackhawks season has been a success because they've done a lot of catering to their fans during a season in which they've had great young talent and spent money on free agents. Anyway, forcing business attire on people doesn't make or break success. It's meaningless. "Holding people accountable" is just a bunch of talk. They aren't running their team like a bunch of morons, congrats.

McDonough is form over function. All that crap about casual attire and dressing people down is garbage. Who cares how people dress? And getting on people and yelling at them generally hurts morale, and makes them more likely to leave.

Speaking from someone who's seen both sides of the coin, it's really easy at the top to proclaim a business professional dress code. But it's a lot harder on those who make less money than you do. It's also generally less comfortable.

I don't really care about what seems like success vs. actualy success, and I don't really care what dress code they have. As long as employees are made perfectly clear on what is expected of them, they can be required to wear elf costumes to work for all I care.

Wow, another too many men penalty.

I'm seeing a lot to like from this first period. I'm not even going to try to spell his name, but #4 is busting it out there. Great work. Sharp, Havlat, Buff, even Johnson looks good.

Now kill this one and keep it going.

Yea and Foley pisses me off every time he tries to pronounce it. Butchers the crap out of it.

Hjalmarsson... you don't pronounce the damn J!

Actually, the J is pronounced. He's played in Rockford for the better part of the past two seasons, and I listen to or attend just about every game. The announcers on the radio, and even the PA Announcer at the Rockford MetroCentre pronounces his name with the J... I'd assume that someone in the organization would correct the announcers if the name was being erroneously pronounced.

Sorry man, this is just incorrect...

Here is the Swedish pronounciation of "hjä´lpa":

http://www2.hhs.se/isa/swedish/9-74.wav

(NOTE: hjä´lpa is a perfect example to use. If you take the dots off the "ä" it is pronounced "yahl'pa" or how "yahlmarsson" is pronounced correctly. The ä makes the sound of a long "a" like in cat.)

When a "tj" or a "sj" come together it makes the "shhh" sound (See Frederik Sjöström - prounced Shoe-strum). The only time you even get close to the English "J" sound is in a word like "kjol"... but even then its a word most Americans can't pronounce on their palate as it puts the tongue in an awkward position on the roof of the mouth.

kjol - http://www2.hhs.se/isa/swedish/9-79.wav

Sorry to be nit picky, but I speak Swedish and Finnish ;)

I'm not discrediting your knowledge in any way shape or form... I'm just telling you how it's been pronounced by every member of the local media here, and by every employee of the Rockford IceHogs organization that I know!

Gotcha!

Well now at least you know the proper way to say it ;)

Talk to the Hawks about it, maybe the guy comes from the Swedish version of a family that pronoounces/spells their names differently just for the fun of it.

Phonetic: JAHL-muhr-suhn

Brodeur > Blackhawks :(

Wish I could blame it on the refs!
