During the game, it was reported on the D-backs' television broadcast that D-backs president Derrick Hall said Hudson suffered either a dislocation or a fracture

Rotoworld is reporting it is dislocated and he'll miss the rest of the season.

dang...the diamondbacks have been unlucky so far this season

Makes up for the fact that they were quite lucky last season.

This is no different than last year. Hudson pretty much missed the end of last season and the playoffs, too.

I still find it hilarious that they gave away Carlos Quentin so they could extend Byrnes. Whoops.

Don't feel too bad, they did steal Chris Young away from CWS....

Plus the prospect they got from CWS for Carlos Quentin (Chris Carter) was packaged to Oakland in the Dan Haren trade. So there's no whoops....it worked out very well for the D'backs.

I strongly disagree with your post. You can't do that. You have to judge every trade on its own merits. Furthermore, the Diamondbacks gave up Javier Vazquez who is legitimately a fine pitcher at a decent price. Why did the White Sox get ripped off because they actually had to give something up to get him? I think people are overrating Chris Young a little. Sure he has potential to do better things than he is doing but so far he's not. A .763 OPS last year and a .713 OPS this year, his offensive game is like Rickie Weeks's - dirt low batting average, good Isolated Discipline, fair enough power, but the batting average keeps everything down.

Plus the fact that that prospect was the 6th guy in a 6 man deal doesn't make him more valuable. I hardly think the deal wouldn't have gotten done without him or anything. Carlos Quentin has a friggin' .952 OPS and 32 friggin' home runs. And they got a nothing prospect for him, really. They were trying to get Teixeira later, who isn't even as good as Quentin.

That's a definite "whoops, my bad." I don't see how you can spin it any other way. If the Giants happen to rip off the Twins in a trade somewhere down the road it doesn't mean the Pierzynski trade wasn't a sack of crap.

Chris Young really isn't very good, and I find it hard to believe that the D-Backs couldn't have gotten Haren if they didn't have Carter.

I think Josh Byrnes is a pretty good GM, but the Quention trade was a big time screw up, no doubt about it.

I didn't say the Quinton trade was a great trade, all I said, don't feel too bad for Arizona. I know Chris Young looks like and plays like a RH version of Corey Patterson, but they kid does still have a tremendous upside.

With that said, the mistake wasn't trading Carlos Quinton, it was extending Eric "Overrated" Byrnes. Had they NOT extended Byrnes, they could have made a deal for Tex (I know the official reason was Ari didn't want to part with Jackson, but come on......Jackson is NO Tex, and I believe it had more to do financially then actual players) or Adam Dunn. And Dunn or Tex would have easily replace Quinton.

Besides, what if Quinton was hitting .230 with 10 homeruns and 40 rbis? So essentially, the Backs traded Carlos Quinton for Dan Haren (via a third trade), and in my book that's a good trade.

Haha, what? I don't even know what you're trying to say. That makes no sense at all. The guy they got for Quentin was a very small part of the Haren trade, so it's not like they traded Quention for Haren at all, not even close. That's like trading Soto for Nick Masset, trading Masset/Vitters/Pie/Veal/Ceda for Adam Dunn, and then saying "Oh, well we basically traded Soto for Adam Dunn, so that wasn't a bad trade" (Keep in mind I'm not actually comparing Nick Masset to Chris Carter).

Also, it's not like Quentin came out of nowhere. He was a top prospect who put up monster numbers at every level and was only 24. It might be surprising that he's gotten this good this fast, but it shouldn't shock anyone that he's a really good player. There is no way around it, that was a terrible trade.

I like how you provide stats for Chris Young and Carlos Quentin, but only provide "legitimately fine pitcher at a decent price" for Javier Vasquez.

Go ahead and post this legitimately fine pitcher's stats for the season. An argument can be made that one would rather have Jason Marquis.

I sometimes enjoy your arguments, Badnews. But, you can't sit there and blast Chris Young and a whole bunch of other people, yet praise the legitimately fine Javier Vasquez in the very same thread and get away with it.

I'd rather have Quentin than Young any day of the week (even before this season).

Of course I really, really, really like(d) Quentin's game.

I really think the player that the Sox will lament losing is Aaron Cunningham who they traded to the D'backs for Danny Richar. Cunningham is now with A's (AAA). The D'backs packaged him as part of the trade for Haren.
