Natspos(Redding) vs. Brewers(Sheets). Sure looks like we'll be 4 games up on them by the end of the night.

Anyone else sick of hearing how the Brewers are 3-0 since the Parra/Fielder fight, but nobody mentions that they've been facing NL whipping boys?

Too long to fit on an ESPN lower-third graphic.

Trust me, Brewer fans are sick of hearing about the fight "energizing" the team, too. It'd be nice if ESPN could realize that the Brewers are one of the best teams in the NL and beating up on an easy schedule so far in August, but that makes for boring discussion.

I wouldn't assume Brewers victory tonight. Redding is a pretty good pitcher with good stuff and Sheets has been pretty bad for about a month now. If he struggles with his command again and has to throw a ton of pitches early, it could be a short night for him and the Nats will stick around long enough to get a chance to win.

I guess it's too much to ask that ESPN or whoever is saying this stuff realize that the Brewers had a fight last year and it was followed by a tailspin.

This time, they did it right.

Anytime the Nationals want to score a run this series, that would be great.

I knew this 10 game stretch would be tough. We basically have to win almost every game to avoid a potential collapse and letting the Brewers back into the division race.

I expected the Brewers to sweep, but I didn't expect the Nationals to go scoreless the first 15 innings of the series, even against CC and Sheets.

hopefully the nats are still rolling over and playing dead when we play them.

It never works that way. Ever. You know they'll have fangs bared and all their competitive juices flowing, ready to tear into the big, bad, big market team and give them the fight of their lives and try and gain some satisfaction from playing spoiler.

Rough night to play in either Central division, though; Carlos Lee HBP and has a broken pinky, Braun has back tightness, and Jose Contreras with a ruptured Achillies.

Ned sends Sheets back out for the 9th with 102 pitches and a 6 run lead.

most of the time i'd say no big deal, but sheets is top 5 in PAPs and he has a long injury history. bad neddy, bad.

The Nats save Ned's butt by being pretty impatient in the 9th, but I still don't like the move. They had the chance to pinch hit for him in the bottom of the 8th and they sent him up to bat with Kendall on second (he ended up driving him in on a bloop hit, so I guess it worked out...still dumb).

Considering nobody in the bullpen has pitched for 2 days before tonight, and some haven't pitched since August has started, I would've liked to see someone get some work in the 9th inning. Ned gets too worked up over things like shutouts...Sabathia and Sheets are now tied for most shutouts in the NL, and they won't have anything left by the time they have to pitch against the Cubs twice in the last couple weeks (not that you guys would have much of a problem with that #-o ).

I checked the score in the bottom of the eighth, saw Sheets had 102 pitches (I believe) and there was no doubt in my mind good ol' Ned was going to send him back out for the ninth.
