When he's hot, he's the most fun Cub to watch.

.297/.344/.583.

Hopefully that inevitable cold streak comes soon so he can be super hot during the playoffs.

What are his stats prorated this year? He would have to be close to being an MVP candidate right?

at his current home run rate stretched out to 600 ABs, he'd be at 45 home runs.

I said this in the GT, but I'll say it again... we sure got bad luck with Soriano's injuries, because he had never missed significant time before last year. I believe 2007 was his first career DL trip.

I wan to see wrigley23 give Sori his props, just once.

Don't hold your breath. Does he even post here anymore? I haven't seen too much of him outside of the Roberts thread.

He'll just say that he should be doing all that in the 5 spot.

And then he'd go off about how the team needs a leadoff hitter.

This is the nature of the beast with such a streaky and flawed hitter. When he's one, he's ridiculous, and it's fun as heck. But when he's off, he's horrible. He could never be my favorite Cub as he just makes too many outs for my liking. But he is an incredible talent. It's just a shame Hendry screwed the team up so bad that he practically forced himself into giving Soriano that contract in order to provide a boost to what was a pathetic offense.

He's only shown up when Sori wasn't hitting or if he commits a fielding blunder.

That is assuming that the time he missed would have included his good streaks, and not his bad. Who knows, maybe they missed some bad Soriano time. Or maybe missing time has allowed him to maintain his good Soriano side a little longer.

FWIW, he was sort of a victim of bad timing, too. He probably would've used that money on Beltran or someone else better had he had the opportunity earlier. It seemed MacPhail and/or the Trib was unwilling to OK monster contracts.

That's not to excuse his poor allocation of resources otherwise, though.

lol remember in April when people thought Soriano had forgotten how to hit?

He had 2 HR and a .577 OPS

I mean, really. Did anybody seriously think that he was going to do that all season?

ESPN has him on pace for 36 HRs in only 113 games. Wow. Another funny stat - there are only 3 Cubs who are currently slugging over .500 on the season (more than 50 AB). Obviously Soriano, but he shares this distinction with Mike Fontenot and Z

You mean like today? He is a butcher in the field. He needs to be a strong offensive player to make up for it. I love his production, but streaky hitters have no place in the leadoff position. 3-6 would be preferable. I only post when he sucks? I suppose, but the same could be said for those that blow his horn only when he is on a streak. He doesn't work the count at all. He swings at horrible pitches. He is Shawon Dunston at the plate w/ more pop. Shawn was not a leadoff hitter either. The stupid hop he does when he does get under a flyball is incredibly annoying. Another enabling trait he's allowed to continue.

Amazingly, Soriano may actually be having the least streaky season out of all the Cubs this year. His BA, OBP, and SLG% have all pretty much gone straight up since the start of the season:

Lee, Ramirez, Soto, and company have all gone through more significant ups and downs.
