Probable Starters:

Iowa: RHP Mitch Atkins (Iowa & Tenn: 13-6, 3.90 ERA, 134 IP, 106 K/37 BB)

Tennessee: LHP James Russell (Tenn & Daytona: 5-8, 4.82 ERA, 112 IP, 75 K/31 BB)

Daytona: RHP Hung-Wen Chen (Daytona & Peoria: 4-4, 3.17 ERA, 105 IP, 66 K/19 BB)

Peoria: RHP Audy Santana (1-5, 3.67 ERA, 61.1 IP, 45 K/23 BB)

Mesa starters are just guesses.

What is the scoop on Mitch Atkins? It seems that he doesn't get mentioned as one of the better prospects in the system, yet he continues to put up above average numbers throughout the minors and he is only 22 yrs old. Is he a projected back of the rotation pitcher?

Jones is 11-36 with 2 RBI in his last 10 games with one double and 13 K's in that stretch. So, he's kind of cooled off some(although it's still over a .300 BA over his last 10). I didn't realize until I looked him up that he's 6'5, 215.......

Atkins is a guy that will probably get a solid look next spring, if you ask me. I feel pretty sure Bruce Miles said it was almost a certainty he'll be added to the 40 man next year. He's just one of those guys that's produced at every level. He's made the All Star game at whatever level he's been at 3 years in a row now.

Chen has pitched 5 scoreless for Daytona at this point, by the way.

Up to 6 scoreless. Great game for him: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K.

Rain delay for the Peoria game.

Really, you guys should send that to drought-stricken California.

And now Atkins strikes out the side in the 5th. 5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 9 K.

Daytona loses 1-0 as Jayson Ruhlman gives up the the game-winning solo HR in the bottom of the 9th. Ouch.

The corresponding move to Jay Jackson going to Daytona was Josh Whitlock being promoted to Peoria.

yeah i was getting interested in him but he has fallen apart like a cheap suit. 20 homers and 136 hits allowed in 113.2 innings, which is waaaaay too hittable.

Wuertz's era sucks but his WHIP is good and is K/IP is more in line to his mlb #s.

His k/bb this year was the number that was concerning, not enough for a demotion but the one number that made me scratch my head a little.

I still hold out that he will bring something to this team and maybe even in the postseason too. If other teams were able to pick up a talent like his at the trade deadline id think they'd be pretty happy; but Wuertz just sits in Iowa for now.

Vitters with a first inning double off the wall, it was very close to a HR.

Cashner is topping out at 98 but his command is atrocious.

Walk on a 3-2 count.

Walk on 4 pitches.

Walk on a 3-1 count.

Sac fly to RF on a 3-1 count. 1 out. Cooper scores. Burke sends a perfect throw but Brenly couldn't handle it.

Brenly now throws the ball away on a SB attempt and that allows the second walk to score.

Line single. Runners at the corners.

Flyout to CF. Runner from third tags and scores. Runner at first advances to second.

Walk on a 3-1 count. Runner at second steals third.

3-4-3 groundout (1B Ryan Keedy misplayed it but 2B Dwayne Kemp bailed him out).

1 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 4 BB, 0 K, 35 pitches (12 strikes).

Cashner is scheduled to throw 60 pitches and Chris Carpenter is supposed to follow him.

Sounds like the Boise Hawks got stranded when their bus broke down along the way to Yakima. They didn't get much of a chance to do more than put their uniforms and get ready for the game (no BP, etc.). I sure hope that's why Cashner was so brutal in the first. :|

Unless one of these guys is moved to a different position, we have a slight logjam at 3B right now. Lansford is holding everyone up as he struggles in AA. Smith finally got to Daytona at least, but he's not going anywhere higher until he gets hot again or next year most likely. Rosa is blocked by Smith and therefore Vitters is blocked by Rosa.

I'd like to see Rosa and Vitters find a way to move up within the next few weeks somehow, although short of injury, I'm not really seeing how it can happen.
