Anyone listening to Tribune Live? Kap evidently mentioned we were interested in someone other than Ibanez. Teased it though and said they'd talk about it later?

LOL, Pie and a second prospect for Ibanez. When you factor in defense, Pie's probably better than him alone, never mind age, contract, player cost, all that jazz.

Talk about robbery, they must be nuts. If they keep that stance, they can stuff it.. [-(

This is the same organization that wants the Yankees to pick up all of Jarrod Washburn contract, plus give up a TOP prospect. So, it doesn't surprise me that the M's are asking for Pie and another good prospect for Ibanez.

If you think about it, what do they really have to lose? They're going nowhere, so whats the worse that coukd happen? Either they get pospects or drsft picks. While theyd probably take some good prospects over the picks, theyd take the picks over crap prospects. I dont blame them for trying to get as much as they can.

Problem is, they likely won't get two draft picks for Ibanez. He's looking like a Type B, which means one sandwich (I believe) pick.

Two to three decent prospects would be better than one sandwich pick oftentimes.

Personally, I'd rather go with a Pie/ Johnson platoon if Edmonds is hurt. Pie might not hit much but I'd trade a little CF offense for defense.

Amen to that.

If Ibanez and Gonzalez are the best Jim can - or will - do to make a "just before the" deadline deal... just don't Jim. Just do what you've told the major sports and news services, "this team is fine the way it is".

Is there a link available somewhere that actually sheds light on what constitutes an A, a B, and what misses completely? I thought I saw it somewhere on here, but can't find it.

Ha, the Mariners play chicken with teams on Ibanez and lose, badly. How delightful.

And they lost against the Yankees on Jarrod Washburn. And Adrian Beltre with the Twins. But they did beat the Marlins in the Arthor Rhodes deal.

Not a good trade deadline for the Mariners in general.

Washburn might clear waivers, so I wouldn't rule out him getting traded just yet.

Maybe, but I doubt their stance about what they want for Washuburn prolly won't change.
