Option 1: Move Fukudome to CF, sign a RF (or LF and move Soriano to RF), and trade Pie

Option 2: Put Pie is CF, keep everything else the same.

Option 3: Keep the Edmonds/Johnson platoon, keep everything the same.

Option 4: Let Samardzija start every game and don't even bother having people play defense

Option 5: other

Option 3 would probably easily be the worst. Option 2 would give us great defense, but we'd also have to worry about Lou panicking if Pie has a bad game. I would go option 1, cause Fukudome doesn't seem like he's going to be productive enough to stay in RF, but would be good production out of CF along with his defense still being solid.

Intriguing OF free agents: Milton Bradley, Pat Burrell, Adam Dunn, Raul Ibanez, Manny Ramirez, Bobbly Abreu, Casey Blake, Vladimir Guerrero (has a club option).

Harden through 6, Shark takes it from there. Bam, lights out city.

Seriosuly, Id be willing to bet on LF Soriano CF Pie RF Fuku with Reed Johnson as the 4th. 2009 will probably be Pies last chance. He'll start the season, probably platooning with Johnson, and it it doesnt work out, they find someone else through a trade.

I guess it depends on who owns the team and how we finish the year. If we don't win the world series and if Cuban owns the team, I don't see us going into the year with a Soriano, Pie, Fukudome outfield unless we get someone like Utley or Hanley Ramirez.

Ironically his first also.

I figure we'll open next year with Soriano in left, Puie/Johnson in center, and Fukudome in right. Mainly, because I doubt we'll have much to do in free agency with most likely not having ownership in place. If Pie starts off badly, we'll go out and get someone fairly early on., or at least as soon as someone comes available......

I'd like to see Fukudome in CF and add more of a power bat for RF myself.

With the organization's unwillingness to play Pie enough to get a read on his ability at the MLB level, and the payroll hindrances we'll probably face, our best bet may be to trade for a CF or RF who is either too expensive for their current team, underperforming but has reason to think they'll improve, or both. The idea is that you get someone who produces decently for a CF with the potential for more, even if it's not a CF.

Players in this category could include: Carlos Beltran, David DeJesus, Mark Teahen, Jeremy Hermida, Fred Lewis, Andre Ethier, Chris Young, Carl Crawford, and Lastings Milledge.

I think Pie's future unfortunately depends on how successful this year's club. If the Cubs win it all, his odds of playing next year go up dramatically. If they get to the playoffs and lose, he likely gets buried in the depth chart in favor of another win-now option as the carrot gets bigger. If they somehow collapse and miss the playoffs, I think Pie's chances go up again as the team likely puts the free money to pitching. Just my guesses.

I agree with you about Pie in CF. As this year's team has shown, we have a bunch of streaky hitters so Lou might not be able to be patient with Pie in CF. I'm sure there will be high expectations in 2009 for a repeat as World Series Champions.

True, as in case you havnt noticed, The Cubs as an organization arent always the most patient when it comes to prospects.

Pie gets his September call-up rakes and makes the post-season roster.

you're assuming that he'd get playing time, which is not a good assumption

Edmonds is breaking down.
