Probable Starters:

Iowa: RHP Randy Wells (at Iowa: 6-3, 3.50 ERA, 69.1 IP, 60 K/21 BB)

Tennessee: LHP James Russell (Tenn & Daytona: 4-5, 3.93 ERA, 94 IP, 57 K/25 BB)

Daytona: RHP Grant Johnson (Daytona & Tenn: 1-2, 6.07 ERA, 29.2 IP, 14 K/12 BB)

Peoria: RHP Jose Pina (Peoria & Boise: 0-0, 1.08 ERA, 8.1 IP, 10 K/3 BB) & RHP Jay Jackson (Peoria & Boise: 0-0, 3.46 ERA, 13 IP, 19 K/2 BB)

Boise: RHP Justin Bristow (Boise & Mesa: 1-0, 3.00 ERA, 3 IP, 5 K/1 BB)

According to Nate, Jose Pina will be on a leash of 40 pitches or 2 innings and then Jay Jackson will take over. Scott Eyre is expected to pitch at some point today with the Chiefs.

So I take it tomorrow Rich Hill will be starting for Mesa sense they got the day off today?

Yeah, he should be (since there's so little information out of the AZL, one can never be 100% sure).

So my mom got me a ticket to tonight's Peoria/Kane County game and was wondering who I should look for besides Eyre.

What kind of pitches does Pina & Jackson have? Their bios on the links provided don't offer much more than their stats. What roles do these two guys look like they might have in the future?

Thanks.

Both are interesting pitching prospects. Pina is coming back from TJS I believe, and Jackson is making his second "start" after being promoted from Boise, he was drafted in the teens(maybe 12th-13th round?) this June. Speaking of Boise promotions, Rebel Ridling and Jake Opitz should play. Opitz has a future in a Fontenotian role, and if Ridling can keep hitting like he did in Boise, he just might have a MLB future. Luis Bautista is a C/1B/DH that has been killing the ball all year. He's come out of nowhere and is a bit old for the MWL, but 1.000+ OPS's make you pay attention.

Just read this in an ESPN chat by Keith Law:

Tim (NYC): Vitters/Moustakas: A year out, who would go first (with Heyward clearly going before both)?

SportsNation Keith Law: (1:08 PM ET ) Vitters. I've heard from people who've seen him this year that he looks outstanding in the NWL.

Pina is an interesting kid, recovering from Tommy John surgery. I haven't heard much about him in the past in terms of stuff but I think he throws in the upper 80s/low 90s with a curve and change that are further behind.

Jay Jackson was drafted this year out of Furman (9th rounder, TT). He's got a nice low 90s FB and a hard slider...both with potential to be plus pitches down the road. Very interesting guy.

Amongst the position players, Luis Bautista is the red hot bat. Jovan Rosa is their cleanup hitter and he got a sizable bonus lat year as a draft and follow, but after a fantastic May, he's struggled in June and July. Nate Samson and Cliff Andersen got over slot money and Samson is having a good season. Rebel Ridling tore the cover off the ball in Boise and was just promoted, definitely worth a look.

Gian Guzman is pretty young for the MWL and could turn out to be something though he's struggled this year. I am very interested in him despite the poor numbers. He did have a 2 HR game a few days ago.

For Tennessee, Tyler Colvin got a double in his first AB. Tennessee is down 3-0 in the 2nd, though.

In Daytona, Tony Thomas is 1 for 2 with a single and Marquez Smith is 1 for 1 with a single and a walk. Daytona down 1-0 in the 3rd.

Felix fouled off 6 pitches in his 1st AB. Unfortunately, the last one was just tipped and caught by the catcher for a K. Dubois HBP to stop him from another HR.

Add a walk to Colvin's night.

Daytona gave up a Dope slap. His 16th of the year.

Peoria suspended at 6-1 in the top of the 4th due to rain in Geneva. Pina was roughed up: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 0 K.

Sure did. He was slugging .818 as an I Cub going into this game. If only he was 5 years younger.

Justin Bristow hits his pitch count. His final line: 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K. His change up sounded good, he had a fit of lost control with 2 outs in the 2nd that lead to his 2 walks and the quicker than expected exit. Israel Camacaro coming in.
