In the midst of all the Harden talk, It's beginning to hit me that we're also losing one of our fan favorites. He's been a pleasure to watch and all the best to him in Oakland. I have no doubt in my mind that he ends up being an all star pitcher one day under Beane and especially in that ball park .

Good luck Sean! (And Matt, Eric, and Josh too :D )

I always loved his MLB picture, he always made that goofy smile

God speed Gallagher, you'll have a lot of success in this league. I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled a Greg Maddux on us.

Bye Sean. I'll probably watch you pitch some for the A's. Just remember there will probably always be some Cubs fans watching you play. Good luck!

Best of luck, Sean (and his dad assuming he still reads here). Here's to hoping you have a long prosperous career in Green.

I always thought Sean Gallagher was a pretty good pitcher, and he has great potential. I'm sure you'll do great in Oakland, Sean. Look forward to watching you pitch later this week!

Nice, I'm going to miss having him on the team. He has a bright future, but this is a deal we needed to make.

I'll miss E-Patt and Murton, despite their crucial flaws, they still were contributors.

Too bad the Cubs had to trade him, but you have to give value to get value. I'm optimistic about his future, but the move was definitely the tight move to make to increase chances of winning this year. Best wishes to him in Oakland; at least he won't regularly be pitching against the Cubs.

Good Luck to Sean, and his family...and to his Dad, thanks for all the constant updates and info...you're a valued part of this board and I hope you don't become a stranger just b/c Sean is now an A.

I'm actually really happy Sean and Murton got traded. I like both, but neither was going to get a great chance here (at least this year). I'd guess both get good opportunities in Oakland and that's an organization I have no problem pulling for so I can still cheer for these guys.

Mr. Gallagher, hope you still stop by every once in a while. At least now your son should get to start regularly in the majors for the rest of this season. Though I hope he doesn't win a World Series this year .

Good luck to Sean and all the others!

Usually wouldn't bother posting something like that, but there's actually a decent chance these days that one or more of them will actually read this.

if we win the world series, do those guys get rings?

I know Nomar got one from 2004 so I think yes

I think it is up to the players who gets a ring, I could be wrong though.

I'm sad to see Gally go. For him to be the key piece in a deal for Harden should be taken as a pretty good compliment though. If Hendry had traded Gally for a lesser pitcher (Burnett, Wolf, etc), I would have been upset.

If Harden can stay mostly healthy through the rest of his career (gigantic IF, but who knows, maybe at 26+ he'll turn the corner), it won't matter what Gallagher and the rest of those players do. They wouldn't make us look stupid.

That's assuming that Harden ends up a Cub long term.

If Harden pitches well and helps the Cubs win a WS this year, does it matter where he is long term?

I'm usually pretty confident in the Cubs keeping our good free agents around. Aren't you?

At the very least, we should have him through 09 and be able to get a better gauge on his health situation.

Of course, I suppose that (keeping him around) depends on who winds up owning the team.

Is the 2009 option a player, team, or mutual?

This trade is bittersweet, but mostly sweet. Murton and Gallagher were 2 of my favorites. I think the move is probably good for both of them and its definitely good for us. I bet Murton is really excited to be somewhere he has a chance to play.

We'll see if Murton gets to play. Oakland has to clear up a little bit of a logjam first. Right now, Murton's reporting to AAA once again.

I was always impressed with Gallagher, but his quotes at the beginning of the season still strike a chord with me. I can't find it (if somebody can, please post it once again. It was on two spots on the board, but the search hasn't produced any results yet) but basically when he got sent down to the minors he just talked about how much he still watched the Cubs games because he felt like they were family, and he was willing to do whatever it took to make the team win, even if that meant that he had to be in the minors. Also he said that when he came back up he was willing to accept any role.

Unfortunately Sean, your service to the team had to be in trade. We didn't want to have you go. May your career be long and fruitful. Who knows, maybe we'll get to see you in a Cubs uniform once again before your career is over. Enjoy the time though. Leaving the atmosphere of Wrigley would be tough, but you're going to a good organization with good fans and a stadium that should help your numbers. Thanks for the memories and all the dedication you had to continue to get better as the years went along to prove first that you were a legitimate prospect, then to prove that you will be a good major leaguer, which I have no doubt of.
