Interesting meaningless stat-of-the-day: We went 1-6-1 in our first 8 road series, but we've gone 3-2-2 in our subsequent seven. It'd look a lot better if those two series losses weren't sweeps, but it's still an encouraging sign that we've tied or won 5 of our last 7 road series though. Hopefully we can keep up similar numbers on the road the rest of the year, I'll take it.

What people are forgetting, is that the Cubs went through their hardest part of their schedule, mentall and physically. A 35 day, 32 game stretch, that took the Cubs through two WC trips, a trip to Toronto, to Cooperstown, to TB. A stretch that saw the Cubs have to travel from San Fransisco to St. Louis, without a day, and won that game in St. Louis. A stretch that saw the Cubs lose Soriano, Johnson, and Zambrano for a period time. As stretch that saw the Cubs go 17-15. And through it all, the picked up a game on the Cards, and have remained in first place.

So sure, moment on the road is great, and I am pride that they are starting to play well on the road. And sure the Brewers are close to getting CC, but if the Brewers couldn't make up series ground, with the Cubs losing both Soriano and Zambrano, then I doubt getting CC will help them overtake the Cubs.

In other words, this team might be the mentally strongest team we've had in Chicago since the Don Zimmer days. That's why I doubt the Cubs will drop out of first anytime soon, if at all.

I'll buy into the mentally strong point because they came back after a crushing loss yesterday and dispatched the Cards like so much trash -- and it's not the first time this year they've come right back after a bad loss and posted a win.

Hopefully they keep it going. Finishing over .500 on the road would mean they play substantially above .500 on the road the rest of the way.
