Pitchers seem to have picked up on the fact that once they get 2 strikes on him, which happens more often than not, hes going to try and foul off everything and anything. It seems that after the first few fouls, they just have to throw something out of his reach, and he'll whiff right through it, wherever it may be.

Yeah, Kosuke really needs to adjust. It's not just that he's striking out all the time. He's looking awful while doing so.

He needs to start hitting the ball away from Wrigley.

Kosuke with 2 strikes this year: .292/.397/.398

Last 18 games: .290/.402/.420

He's allowed to have 3 rough games in a row. It doesn't mean anything.

EDIT:

And as a team, the Cubs are hitting .199/.284/.294 with 2 strikes on them. National League average is .180/.254/.275

But he has to start hitting on the road. He's hitting .212 and slugging an anemic .288 away from Wrigley.

Yeah, but what is your GUT telling you?

Kosuke still fouls off a ton of outside pitches. Naturally opposing pitchers are going to pitch him out there, as Kosuke's "flail and bail" batting style leaves him vulnerable to the outside pitch. I think you only think he's doing worse now because some of his K's have been in "crucial" game situations

That's not because pitchers are attacking him differently on the road. He just had flukey splits early on. His .324 OBP away from Wrigley is rising. Here are his OBPs during recent road trips prior to this series:

@ White Sox - .429

@ Blue Jays and Rays - .400

@ Padres and Dodgers - .333

@ Astros and Pirates - .333

His lack of power is really the only concern and it's going to come around. How much is the question. But right now, he's doing fine.

I should clarify that his "last 18 games" line is overall, not just with 2 strikes.

Well, MY gut is saying that Kosuke still draws a ton of walks, and people who draw a ton of walks are prone to striking out. But that's not really my gut, more just common knowledge. Homeboy is on pace for 100+ walks and a super high OBP and he's finally hitting near the top of the lineup, I can live with his K's

He's just clogging the bases.

Damn, you're right. I retract my statement. I don't know what I was thinking.

Fair enough. I'm not really worried about Kosuke, I think he's done ok. That being said, I do think he's a bit overrated.

I think he's definitely overhyped, but I don't know about overrated. He still giving the team pretty much exactly what we hoped for. He's on pace to hit near the .300 line, maybe 15 home runs, above average defense, and a high OBP. It's what we wanted out of him, he's just not mashing the ball like he did to start the season so I think the expectations people had for him after his start were a bit too lofty, and what we're seeing now is what he really is. Which is fine by me

I think perhaps the opposite might be worth keeping an eye on. Before tonight, Kosuke his hitting .318/.311/.409 when he puts the first pitch into play. Major League average is .338/.342/.539.
