Jodie Meeks on Kentucky dropped 54 points on Tennessee tonight.

 

Just about to post this.

 

He hit 15-of-22 shots including 10-of-15 3-pointers. Also hit all 14 free throws. Most points in a single game in Kentucky history. And looking at his stats, he's also had a 46 point game (hit 9 threes), and games of 39, 37 and 32 (hit 8 threes).

The old record was 53 points, set by Dan Issel way back in the 1969-70 season. Issel also had a 51-point game the same season. The ESPN game announcers are talking Meeks up as a possible national player of the year contender.

 

And not mentioned in the previous posts was that the game was at Tennessee (who had a long home winning streak going), and Kentucky won 90-72.

Yep, they beat us at home in OT. We hadn't lost a home game all of last year and to that point this year. Now we've lost two straight.

 

And that Gonzaga game was the first UT game I've been to in the Bruce Pearl era. #-o

the "block" on battle? yeah that was lousy. i won't bitch about the refs screwing penn state; in reality they screwed both teams and the fans. 48 fouls called, i think 27 or 28 of them were in the second half. it totally disrupted the flow of the game. let 'em play, dammit.

I've ranted about this a lot in college basketball threads, but that call makes no sense. If the shooter leaves his feet and gets the charge before he hits the ground, you absolutely cannot count the basket. It makes no sense.

the college game also badly needs that no-charging arc inside the paint. i hate seeing a guy make a nice move and blow by his defender, only to get a charging call because some bum under the basket took one step to his left.

Michigan's not going to make the tourney. They live and die by the 3 and more times than not its gonna kill you. I couldn't believe that they didn't make halftime adjustments because Illinois' perimeter D was awesome all night.

 

Oh well 13 straight years without making the NCAA tourney for Michigan. I was only 12 when they did it. Now I'm 25 :(

that doesn't necessarily mean a non-tourney team. beilein's west virginia teams were always very three-heavy; from 2005-07 they ranked in the top 10 annually in 3PA/FGA, and in 2006 and 2007 about half their shots came from behind the arc. two of those teams made the NCAA tourney and the other made the final four in the NIT and finished 27-9. that style can win, but if beilein was brought in to make michigan a national championship contender, i think that folks in ann arbor will be disappointed. that style can only get you so far.

Why do I know they'll be in?? They were 16-4 at one point in 06-07 and didn't get in, they were 16-3 the year before and didn't get in. This is Michigan. When you haven't made the tourney since 1997, its hard to envision, especially when we've still got by far the hardest part of our Big 10 schedule to go. We've already played Indiana and Iowa once. I just won't believe it until I see it, especially when I saw how we played today.
