Hey trust me, im not here to say Borowski is great shakes. I just remembered last year near the end of the season seeing his ERA and then all the saves I was like WTF, it didnt line up so i checked his gamelog then. In his case i dont think the ERA was a true indicator of how bad he was as the closer, that was my point. Yeah he probably was an average closer who got a lot of opportunities.

This year he is freaking terrible. I saw him pitch just recently and was like wow, he's worse than his worst Cub days by far. No way would i want him closing games this year.

Getting some recognition on ESPN.com now:

Rodriguez is, in some ways, a walking contrast in terms. While meticulous in his preparation and emotionally well-equipped to handle the demands of a stressful job, he is also quick to celebrate on the mound. His flair for fist-pumping and gesturing recently prompted Joe Crede and Brian Anderson of the White Sox to complain publicly about his on-field comportment.

Man they're a bunch of babies

I hate the save category but you have to show a bit of adminration for a guy that can come in in an opposing ballpark with a run lead and mow them down 1-2-3.

Going into the break with 38 saves. Theoretically on pace for 76 saves. Probably won't get it, but I think he's probably a shoo-in for the saves record at this point, but anything can happen, so.

He's on a pace for 65 saves.

Is anyone else really annoyed with Francisco Rodriguez? He acts like a complete jackass whenever he gets a save, he's got like, what, a 1.27 WHIP which isn't the most dominating thing ever, and he seems to have a share of cheap saves.

Take a look at this boxscore and defend the statistic of the save:

Is that the lamest save in history? Heck, even a guy with a 30 run lead has to get off his ass and pitch three innings. That's a joke.

Sadly Joe Nathen is getting no credit as having one of the best seasons in recent memory as a closer. I would take him over any closer in the league and over Marmol.

Lost in all of this discussion is the historical lesson, namely, that Thigpen was never any good after breaking the record because they basically used him up that season.

Fun fact: there are five relievers in the American League with a far better WHIP and better ERA than K-Rod does. Rivera, Soria, Papelbon, Nathan and Jenks all have ERA's under 2.00 and WHIP's under 1.00 while K-Rod's are 2.81 and 1.29.

I don't care if closers set themselves on fire after they makes saves. i seriously don't.

So if it's the Cubs vs. the Angels in the World Series and K-Rod closes out Game 1 with an amped up times 10,000 version of his imbecilic act since it's the World Series, it won't bother you, all the hopping around and chest thumping and gesticulating?

nope. Nor will it bother me when Soriano cranks a homerun, gazes at it, pulls out his blackberry to text his buddies about it, orders a deep dish pizza, then rides a unicycle around the bases while "Yakkity Sax" plays on the Wrigley organ.

The Mexicutioner is a better closer than K-Rod just on nickname alone

exactly, I hate anything about people getting upset over celebrations (the Houston closer, can't believe I've blanked on this name.. is the closest I've come to getting upset over a celebration but whatever), these guys are playing a game sure they are getting paid handsomely to do it but its still a kids game let them have some fun.

If K-Rod gets a save against us in the world series, of course I'm going to be upset but that will have nothing to do with what he did afterworlds.. the Cubs just lost a game and that's all that sucks.

Most people dream of being able to hit a home run in the big leagues, I'm pretty sure I'd be more excited for my bat flip.

People who get upset over animated players are the same people who couldn't handle trash talking and would get mad taking themselves out of the game as a kid.

Who is more amazing?

Player A: 31 IP, 18 hits, 18 BB's, 29 K's, 2.03 ERA, 1.16 WHIP

Player B: 43 IP, 18 hits, 15 BB's, 63 K's, 2.09 ERA, 0.77 WHIP

PLAYER A!! ofcourse.

Wow, thanks for that analysis Dr. Freud. Here I just thought it meant that K-Rod was cavorting around like a fool and celebrating like he won the World Series after every save, no matter how insignificant, reflected on him, turns out it just reflects on everyone who doesn't share your point of view. How about that.

The difference between K-Rod and the home run watch is that no other closer has a Punch and Judy act even close to what he does, whereas all the home run watchers are more or less in the same ballpark. Plus you have to actually respect a home run a lot of the time, a one out save with a 4 run lead against the Mariners, wow, incredible.

so it bothers you that he's excited that he won, or is it that his level of excitement doesn't match neatly into your made up "excitement scale"?

Jose "Crazy Eyes" Valverde (who is also the guy that Brian was thinking of) is up there.

ah yes, thank you. The thing about Valverde is that he's just plain crazy. WGN or CSN showed his entire ritual before he pitches, and it's pure looney tunes.
