JR Matthes has incredibly compiled 2.48 ERA at Iowa. They have gotten some remarkable pitching, from some non-regarded prospects. Gallagher was very good there, obviously as a status guy. But Burns, Matthes, and Wells have put up some really good ERA's, even while the status guys Hart and Marshall have gotten ripped. I wonder if Matthes isn't basically what the good Marshall was supposed to be?

Marques Smith didn't play for Peoria today. My guess is that he's on the move to Daytona, and will play the full second half with Daytona.

Hernandez continues to rack up the Ks: 6 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 7 K/3 BB, 5 GO-5 FO.

19 K/4 BB in 15.1 IP.

Mathes is certainly one to keep an eye on. He probably had some luck in April with a .233 BABIP, but he's keeping the ball on the ground a bit more this year. Today, he had 15 ground balls to 4 fly outs.

mathes sucks. he's way too hittable. 10.5 hits/9 IP and just over 6 K per 9 IP. he's an adequate AAA starter but nothing more.

iowa apparently likes playing in front of nobody, b/c they won 7-0 in the first game of their doubleheader.

Iowa swept their double header. Felix Pie went 2/4 with an RBI.

Tennessee won 6-4. Atkins had a pretty good outing.

Peoria...tied? That's a new one on me. The line Raisin posted for Hernandez is Hernandez's final line.

The explanation from the Chiefs' web site is that the game was called due to rain. It was an official game, and apparently the practice of suspending the game and completing it the next day didn't apply in this case because it was the end of the first half of the season. Since the second half starts from scratch it wouldn't make sense to carry the game over until the next time the two teams play.
