"Murton grounds to third"

"Murton, two hopper to third"

"Murton hits a little dribbler to third"

"Murton grounds right to the pitcher"

Did he even hit a fly ball when he was called up last time? :banghead:

I exchanged emails with Will Carroll, asking how similar Soriano's HBP/injury was to Utley's last year, and he noted that it looked similar. I imagine that he'll offer a lot of insight over the next couple of days. As I recall, Utley had surgery and they put in a pin to stabilize it.

pie has been terrible down here, and murton is starting to slump and has yet to hit for any power. i would almost be in favor of sending up dubois...yes he is back in DSM and has 5 bombs in 35 AB's.

adam dunn, imo.

tell kosuke "sorry, but we got extenuation circumstances" and toss his ass in CF when Alf is healthy

Dunn in right field sounds like a disaster.

Barry Bonds, your table is ready.

yes, please.

Its interesting. Can Hoff play LF?

Can Bonds play LF?

Nope.

Maybe Murton can produce and we can get something for him at the all star break.

I'd call up both Murton and Hoffpauir, and platoon them for 6 weeks. Hoff was coming up anyway, and the Cubs have no reason to carry 13 pitchers anymore.

You already posted that.

That's what I would like. However, the thought of Dubois is somewhat intriguing. He's like 30 something, so that's probably the only reason he's doing good at AAA, but I just think there's a possibility he could mash some lefties.

I've seen a couple of sources that say Soriano may not be out as long as ESPN reported. CBS Sportsline is reporting that he'll be out 4 to 6 weeks (as opposed to ESPN's "at least" 6 weeks). And Yahoo says he "could" miss 6 weeks.

Eh, I think that 6 weeks is probably the right estimate.

Still better than ESPN's "at least" 6 weeks, which could mean even longer.

I doubt anyone can actually predict to the week at this point.

rotoworld confirms TT's plan

Lou has been saying nothing but good things about Hoffpauir since spring training and never mentions Murton. Based on that I have to think that the Cubs are leaning toward giving Hoffpauir most of the starts in LF against RH pitching with most likely DeRosa in LF and Cedeno at 2B against LH starters. I think that a Fontenot / Cedeno platoon at 2B with DeRosa in LF every day would be Plan B in case Hoffpauir is not producing.

Murton might get called up for the interleague stretch when they need another hitter for a DH on the road, but unless Hoffpauir really struggles or Murton completely catches fire in the 6 games against Toronto and Tampa Bay I just don't see Murton being a big part of their plans.

I actually have a broken 5th metacarpal in my right hand right now. They splinted it for a week and now they have my hand in a Galveston Brace. Basically it holds the bone in place and allows for full range of motion in my wrist and fingers while the bone heals. I can move each finger individually and as a result of the freedom granted by the Galveston brace no physical therapy is required. Total of 5 weeks treatment from the time of break til I get this brace off (assuming everything goes smoothly).

What did you punch?

I punched a hockey goalpost for mine.

How the mighty have fallen. This would have been the window of opportunity for the "Church of Murton" that was all the rage last year and less then 3 months ago. Now all the rage is a journeyman minor leaguer.

Hoff can come up immediately because of the injury and Murton won't come up because the team only needs 1 more OF. Patterson is just as likely as Murton at this point. My bet would be something crazy like Kroeger

Teams are likely not ready to trade, so we'll have to use some combination of Murton/Hauffpair/Patterson to get us through in the meantime. I'd probably call Hauffpauir up now and then add Murton when we head to Toronto.

If Soriano's injury lingers and the offense begins to suffer, here are some options we could consider:

1. Bonds. He only costs money and not players. On the other hand, he comes with lots of baggage and hasn't swung a bat since last season. He might be worth kicking the tires on, but it's a long shot.

2. Adam Dunn. By the All-Star break, the Reds should be out of it. Dunn is an impending FA, but I heard on XM yesterday that Dunn is a favorite of the Reds owner (sounds like an Angelos/Roberts thing), so he may not be moved.

3. Milton Bradley. Bradley is likely cheaper than Dunn. He also is on a one-year deal with the Rangers. The Rangers are hanging close, while not too close, in the AL West race. If they fall further back, Bradley could be available. I'm not sure if he could still play CF, but that possibility would give him somewhere to play when Soriano does return.

4. Raul Ibanez. Would probably come cheaply, he routinely puts up OBP over 350. Could become a bat off the bench when Soriano returns.

5. Brian Giles.

6 weeks is also what Lou said post game, so it's not just ESPN guessing that.
