The DSL Cubs 1 are 6-1 and in first place in the Boca Chica North (the pitching is great):

CF Alejandro Damian: .421/.577/.421/.998 (19 AB), 6 K : 3 BB - 18 years old

LF Albert Hernandez: .368/.409/.474/.883 (19 AB) - 19 years old

RHP Diego Encarnacion: 8 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 8 K/1 BB - 18 years old

RHP Jose Severino: 10 IP, 2.70 ERA, 7 K/1 BB - 19 years old (repeating the DSL because he got into an altercation with Francisco Acosta at extended spring training)

The DSL Cubs 2 are 2-5 and in 9th place in the Boca Chica South (the offense sucks):

OF Jesus Morelli - .308/.400/.538/.938 (13 AB) - 18 years old (Venezuelan)

RHP Francisco Acosta: 6 IP, 6.00 ERA, 9 K/3 BB - 19 years old (demoted from Mesa for fighting with Severino)

RHP Ramon Reyes: 5 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 7 K/0 BB - 19 years old

RHP Hector Mayora: 5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 5 K/0 BB - 19 years old (Venezuelan)

Not sure of what the Iowa transaction will be in relation to Marshall coming off the DL.

RHP Rocky Roquet was promoted to Tennessee and RHP Grant Johnson was demoted to Daytona.

Is Rich Hill scheduled to pitch against the Redbirds? I have class on Tuesday and Wednesday so if he does I hope it is Thursday. If not we may have to make a field trip to AutoZone Park. I'll just have to figure out how to make the students count something over and over at the game (The class is a research methods class).

He's scheduled to go Wednesday at Memphis.

Any updates on Vitters and Pawelak?

Nothing really, sounds like both will at Boise when their season starts next Tuesday (though I wish they'd go back to Peoria). Vitters' bat is looking good in Mesa and Pawelek has put together about a month of great pitching.

The MLB Australian Academy started last week. All 3 Cub pitchers have started a game for the Kangaroos. SS Hak-Ju Lee is also on the Roos roster and will join them at some point this season for two weeks.

 • 18-year old Ryan Searle pitched on June 5th: 3+ IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 5 K/2 BB, WP, 2 GO-1 FO, 67 pitches (40 strikes)
 • 17-year old Adam Spencer pitched on June 6th: 4 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 6 K/1 BB, 4 FO-1 GO, 57 pitches (34 strikes)
 • 17-year old Cody Hams pitched on June 7th: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 4 K/2 BB, 2 WP, 1 GO-0 FO, 46 pitches (27 strikes)

Obviously the competition isn't great so I wouldn't take much away from the stats but it's good to see stats when they're playing in Australia.

Not sure, but when Randy Keisler was granted his release, I don't think they filled his spot on the roster.

Searle is still in Australia? Bummer, I was hoping to see him make Boise this year.

Marshall with a good, but long 1st inning. Colby Rasmus refused to get out as he worked a 7-pitch double.

1 IP, 1 hit, 0 ERs, 0 BB, 2 Ks (looking). 19 pitches, 15 strikes.

He's pounding the strikezone (doesn't that sound sexual?)

2 singles and a strikeout for Marshall in the 2nd. He's at 42 pitches.

Only 12 of them out of the zone. All 3 non-strikeout outs have been on the ground. Also, Eric Patterson just went deep, followed by a Pie pulling a Pierre.

pie's LD% with iowa is 11% according to first inning. even though he's not striking out much, he's also not making good contact. that sucks.

patterson has solid numbers, but the erosion of his plate discipline is disturbing.

And Marshall's done. 58 pitches, 42 strikes, 3 IP, 6 hits, 2 ER, 0 BBs, 4Ks, 4 GO/0 FO. He's not Rich Hill, but it's good to see him throw strikes. Woulda liked 4 innings on a 60-pitch limit, but not a horrible outing.

On Tuesday - for the second straight day at the MLB Australian Academy - the Kangaroos were rained out.

DSL Cubs 1 won again, 5-2, box:

SS N. Pierre 1/3, R, RBI, 2 BB, K, 3 SB (8) - I'm pretty sure he's the only Haitian in the Cubs system

RF-LF A. Damian 0/4, BB, 2 K - 18 years old

3B J. Pena 1/4, 2B (2), 3 K - 18 years old

SP E. Infante 5.2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 K/1 BB, HBP, 9 GO-6 FO

DSL Cubs 2 blew out the DSL Red Sox 11-0, box:

SS B. Vismeldy 2/4, R, RBI, 2 K - 18 years old

2B M. Salazar 2/4, R, RBI - 19 years old

3B C. Morales 2/4, R, 2B (2), BB - 19 years old

1B P. Ramirez 2/5, 2 R, 2B (4), RBI, CS (1)

DH M. Gonzalez 1/5, R, 3B (1), 2 RBI, K - 18 years old

C Y. Liria 1/3, R, 2B (3), RBI, 2 BB - 18 years old

CF G. Robles 2/4, R, 2 RBI, K - 17 years old

Along with his huge 2-run double, Felix also robbed Cardinals prospect Colby Rasmus of a HR last night:

Memphis Commercial Appeal"]The defensive play of the game was made by Iowa centerfielder Pie. Redbirds hitter Colby Rasmus sent a fly ball to deep right centerfield that appeared to be his 10th homer of the season. But Pie leaped well above the 373-foot mark on the outfield wall to rob Rasmus of the homer.

Des Moines Register"]"That was a heck of a catch," Iowa manager Pat Listach said. "He went over the fence and got it, and that's a high fence out there."
