Who does everyone consider to be the best, most productive, pure hitter in the game today? Considering every current player and their entire careers. Some candidates:

Arod

Pujols

Manny, who just hit #500

Ichiro

DLee

Ortiz

Berkman

H. Ramirez

I see this discussed on other boards (ESPN, MLB) and the conversations end up argumentative. Discuss.

If you're just talking hitter and not the overall package, it's Albert Pujols.

I agree. I would still say Pujols overall as well, taking the total package into account. However, I believe the majority of baseball fans would still take Arod. Not a bad choice either way.

I obviously hate the Cardinals and Albert Pujols but it's a pretty easy question at this point. It's Pujols with A-rod (now that his defense has slipped) a somewhat close but still clearly second. After that there's a good slew of people you can argue. I would take Utley and think he may have passed A-rod. The guy absolutely rakes and has done it for 2+ seasons now. If he continues to dominant like he is this season I wouldn't have any qualms with someone putting him first.

I'm a Cardinal fan and have been since birth. I have alot of Cubbie fan friends. Acutally, the majority of them are Cub fans. With both teams playing well right now, how cool and exciting would a pennet race between these two rivals be? I'm not sure if my blood pressure could take it, but a one game playoff to decide the winner or even better, a game 7 NLCS game, would be amazing. Off topic, I know.
