An interesting artice from SI about players who havnt done much in the past off to great starts, and breaks them down as a "team", 1 for every position, and if they feel if the player is a "fluke" or for real. Its written by Baseball Prospectus' Nate Silver. I dont have a link, as I read in in the mag, but Ill break i down

1B-Connor Jackson(D-Backs)-For Real

2B-Dan Uggla(Marlins)-For Real

SS-Ryan Theriot(Cubs)-Fluke

3B-Blake DeWitt(Dodgers)-Fluke

RF-Ryan Luwick(Cards)-Fluke

CF-Nate McClouth(Pirates)-Fluke

LF-Carlos Quentin(White Sox)-For Real

C-Mike Napoli(Angels)-For Real

SP-Ednison Volquez(Reds)-For Real

RP-Brian Wilson(Giants)-Fluke

i'd disagree about McLouth. he's very much for real.

I thought the same thing until I read that his career minor league high is 12 home runs. I would say he can be a solid .300 20 hr guy but doubt he will ever have a 40 hme run season like he is on pace for.

there are 2 guys in the bunch that shouldnt even be there

Conor Jackson-hes been one of the D-Backs top prospects for years, not some guy whose hving a good season

Dan Uggla-he had a great rookie season, and a respectable 2007.

He stopped being a prospect back in 2006. He's had 2 near full years in 06 and 07, and both were virtually identical...

06: .291/.368/.441 15HR 79RBI 485AB

07: .284/.368/.467 15HR 60RBI 415AB

He's gonna put up numbers people were expecting him to put up the past two years. The reason he's on that list is because he once WAS a top prospect, who appeared to be a middle of the road hitter based on his first two seasons. He's just now breaking out, and they're saying he's for real because he's living up to the potential finally as opposed to being Joe Ordinary like he's been the past two seasons, and how people I would assume were expecting him to be this season as well based on his consistency over the course of two seasons
