Shouldnt only the 2nd 2 options be there? If Edmonds coems to town, and does good, I cant imagine too many Cubs fans booing him, no matter how much venemous hatred they had for him in the past.

Do Yankee fans boo Johnny Damon when hes doing well?

I hope the Cubs don't sign him, but IF they do I'd have to root for him to succeed for the good of the team. The success of the team MUST take precedence ove feelings about individual players.

Just out of curiosity, what is the wost case scenerio?

We sign Edmonds for league minimum.

Edmonds sucks, and essentially does what Pie would be doing at the plate anyway.

Meanwhile, Pie finds his stroke in AAA, and hopefully it translates to the big leagues.

Whatever happens, Pie IS the CF of the future. I cant see any scenerio in which Edmonds or even Johnson are part of the 2009 Cubs.

Pie fans should be thankful for this. If Hendry were to go out and get a Coco Crisp or another permanant replacement, that would likely mean the end for Pie and hed be traded by July.

I will boo him every time he comes up. That doesn't mean I'll take any contributions he makes. I just don't like the guy and never will.

Edmonds is signed, sucks, still plays full time in the 5th spot in the order, Pie gets hurt in AAA, Hendry gives Edmonds a 4 year extension.

no, the worst case scenario is that edmonds has two good weeks, goes back to being horrible, and cub management clings to those two weeks as "jim's got it again!" and rides out his .500 OPS for the remainder of the season.

i said no because i don't really get into "booing". it just seems pointless to me. i will say that there will be a part of me wanting him to fail misserably right from the start so that Lou doesn't stick with him. as mentioned already, the worst case is he starts off moderately productive and Lou rides him the rest of the season despite him actually sucking.

Does anyone remember the game in '04 or '05 When the Cubs were down pretty bad, and Scott Rolen(or maybe it was Jim Edmonds) hit a homer off of Carlos Zambrano, and the very next batter was Jim Edmonds(or maybe it was Scott Rolen), and Zambrano nailed him with a fast ball and just walked off the mound to the dug out? One of my favorite Zambrano memories.

No, that's not worst case, that's best case.

Worst case is he does like Reed Johnson and has a couple good games early, then sucks it. But Lou's first impression is that Edmonds can be counted on because of that early success. He keeps throwing him out there, and meanwhile the Cubs feel the need to improve the bullpen, and with Edmonds/Johnson holding down the fort and Tyler Colvin the CF of the future, they trade Pie to solidify the bullpen in July. Then, November rolls around and Hendry decides to extend whatever reliever they trade for with a $15m contract. They realize Colvin isn't going to be ready to start in 2009 so they try and bring back the Johnson/Edmonds platoon for one more turn, remembering that while their full season numbers weren't great, they each had some success at specific points during the year so if they can just work on some things in the offseason and figure out the platoon just right, they will be better in 2009.

I'm not a huge Pie fan myself. I have a lot of doubts about his future. But the only rational way to handle this situation is to keep playing him in the majors, because your lineup is good enough to deal with the struggles and there's no way he's ever going to develop without going through those early struggles in the first place.

I honestly have no idea how I'm going to handle the situation. I think I'll probably just see how I feel when it actually happens.

I've never stopped booing him...

I'll probably boo him when at home, but will cover my mouth when at Wrigley the 2 series I'll be there...

We all know that's exactly what will happen.
