This was mentioned in the broadcast, but didn't see it anywhere. Marquis is going to "skipped" in his next start. Dempster is going to pitch on the 11th in Marquis' spot, and Zambrano is going to follow. What is going to be interesting is who is going to start the 12th and the 13th. Marquis is likely to get one of those starts. While the options for the other are pretty interesting. Lieber might get one more shot, but after this one I am not sure Lou can go that route. Marshall and Gallagher would seem to be the next in line.

Either way it is going to be at least eight days before Marquis starts again. Wonder what will happen to him if he walks the bases loaded this time around.

Marquis' next start would have fallen on the 10th, I believe. What day was Hill optioned? Saturday, May 3? I guess that means he wouldn't be able to pitch for the Cubs again until the 14th? I don't think they'd do that anyway, I think they'll give him at least one more start in Iowa.

Marshall may not be stretched out enough to start by the 12th. Gallagher threw 41 pitches yesterday, so I don't know if they'd run him out there on Saturday (in Marquis' spot). He could definitely start in Lieber's spot on the 12th.

Either way, they're going to have an issue finding someone for either the 10th or the 12th. Maybe they will go with Marshall one of those days and have Lieber ready for long duty.

What a mess.

I'll be in Pittsburgh for the game on the 25th and I can only pray either Lilly or Z is pitching.
Either that or this imposter Dempster we saw in his first few starts.

Does this mean Marquis is one start away from being sent to AAA like Hill?

I don't understand the point of skipping him. It's not like he's magically going to become a better pitcher with more rest. Throw him into the bullpen and bring Hill back up. Also, put Lieber back in the bullpen and use Marshall or Gallagher in his spot.

they're going to have to stick with Marquis for at least one more start. the numbers just don't work out otherwise with Hill unavailable until May 14th. they might as well let him start Saturday the 10th and pitch Gallagher or Marshall on Monday the 12th (in Lieber's spot). Hill could then pitch on the 15th in Marquis' spot.

He's not magically going to become a better pitcher, but the Cubs become magically better when Marquis is not pitching.

They're skipping him on the theory that the less he pitches the better off the team will be.

They aren't really skipping him. They are pushing him back a couple days. With an off day yesterday he'll have 7 days rest instead of what would have been 5 (had the rotation remain intact).

I understand that concept. My question is why not skip him entirely and give him the boot.

This is my big problem with Hill's struggles (and Liebers disaster start). They're certainly more hesitant to move any pitching as a result, even if it's bad pitching.
