Rays claim Dan Johnson

Rays claimed first baseman Dan Johnson off waivers from the Athletics.

 

It doesn't look like Johnson will be active tonight. The Rays will probably send down Justin Ruggiano to make room for him before Saturday's game. Johnson will likely see significant action as a DH against righties, and he'll play first base if Carlos Pena's injury is going to keep him for a few days. He should have a little value in AL-only leagues. Jonny Gomes owners should prepare to be disappointed again. Nathan Haynes also figures to see less time.

It is, but IMO kind of redundant for the Rays. I mean they have Pena/Floyd (even tho he is DL right now)Hinske, and Gomes already at the 1B/DH positions, so I am not sure what they are trying to do here.

 

Another player that could help the Giants, slips past the "legendary" Brian Sabean.

Floyd is out as you said, Pena is day to day, Gomes and Hinske are likely to platoon in RF. Johnson prob. becomes the DH until Floyd comes back.
