I think this would be a great tip for any commissioner. Never comment on officiating after the fact. Never apologize for a bad call or never support you referees for questionable calls. Just let the game be the game and it will go away. Humans making errors are part of the game. It may be officiating or the players making plays. Adding any comments afterwards is only going to fuel the fire.

turco with a great game today... detroit still up 3-2, but i suspect their fans are starting to see the gigueres and kiprusoffs of playoffs past

The first 3 games the Stars looked nothing like they did vs San Jose, they were slow and weak in general. They are starting too look like they got it again, I dont know if its out of desperation or what it is but they are more than capable of winning two more in a row. Will it happen, its not likely but at least we now have a series with a pretty hot Turco.

For what its worth I absolutely hate Detroit.

I think the Pens have finally had enough of the Flyers. Hopefully this lead will hold up and we can grab the popcorn for the rest of the Western finals.

This should be a great series. I know the NHL execs are doing back flips right now.

Let's Go Pens!

Pitt vs Detroit....this ought to be a good chance for the NHL to get some new fans with this matchup.

Go Wings!

I don't know if they'll get any new fans. They may rekindle the passions of some former fans. At least it's not some combination of small market/non-hockey market. But I'm sure they'd much prefer something like Chicago/NY or LA/MON. Detroit has been there quite a lot and was winning while the league was sinking.

Crosby's star alone isn't going to carry the torch for the NHL. This isn't Gretzky in the early 80's. I doubt we're going to see a surge of non-Pittsburgh people suddenly being enamored with him, especially with that horrible facial hair.

I really think this series is pretty good for hockey. It wont give the NHL that much of an increase in fans though. I think the only thing that will really help the league is to lose about 6 teams and start calling interference and stick to it.

What if Crosby scores 8 goals in Game 1 and the Pens lose 9-8? Dude, they'd darnt darnt darnt darnt darnt darnt darnt jump on it jump on it jump on it!

Wings really control game 1. Pittsburgh should have scored a goal, but the refs did take one away from the wings. Crosby and Malkin were complete non-factors

if I remember right, VS has games 1-2, then NBC will have 3-4. Not sure how 5-7 will happen.

My pick was Wings in 6...the hubby said Pens in 6

I'm feeling pretty good about now.

The difference between the Western and Eastern Conference in the NHL is pretty big right now.

I was pretty disappointed with the Pens. I understand gooning it up a little after you get your butts handed to you for a couple of games. To intentionally go for Franzens head with cheapshots was terrible.

not really. did anyone in the western conference give the red wings a legitimate run for their money? the predators took it to six, but that was in large part because hasek was lousy. the stars looked like they might make it interesting, but then got trampled in game six.

it's more accurate to say that the difference between the red wings and the rest of the nhl is pretty big right now.

Stars upset both Anehiem and San Jose, with Turco stealing several games. Both those teams would have given Detroit a very difficult series.

it's amazing how aggressive Detroit's penalty killing is without overplaying the puck. the Pens couldn't do crap on the power play and spent 1/2 of their 5 on 3 in their own zone. really frustrating
