Pearl Jam -- RearviewMirror

That song drives hard and the putting them in the rearview mirror would be a good closer analogy....plus the song is just incredible.

Looks like Kerry put the kabosh on the entrance song initiative.

"I don't think Wrigley is that type of ballpark," Wood said. "That's more of a generational thing for closers— Trevor Hoffman started it with 'Hells Bells,' and [Mariano] Rivera and Billy Wagner and so on and so on.

"Fans are so loud at Wrigley Field in the ninth inning I don't think you'd be able to hear any noise on that sound system anyway. I've never really thought about what song I'd use."

More than 400 readers sent their suggestions to chicagosports.com for an appropriate song for Wood, but that didn't seem to sway him.

"I could probably find one or two Pearl Jam songs," he said. "And I like AC/DC. I think 'Thunderstruck' would probably be a good one. But it probably won't happen."

As usual, pure class - love the boldfaced part above.

If I had to choose an entrance song, I'd go with the evil guitar riff from Led Zep's "In the Light". Perfect complement to noise from the fans.

He came out to TNT by AC/DC today. I wish they wouldn't do it at all, but if they do why pick AC/DC over Pearl Jam?

Because he blew up the game.

(See what I did there?)

Slayer- "Raining Blood"

Thank me later.

After playing Guitar Hero III I could pass on hearing Raining Blood for a few months anyway.

Well don't worry. The Cubs won't be leading many games, so you wouldn't hear it often.

I clearly heard him come out to Welcome to the Jungle today.

Yea, Len mentioned it today. He seemed to suggest that that was what they were gonna go with from now on.

And to be perfectly honest, it works. The clip I'm posting here is ambient audio from Wrigley, courtesy of Gameday Audio between innings, which would be a commercial break on a normal radio broadcast. Between the opening guitar to the song combined with the crowd knowing what's up, again, I think it works in its own way. Decide for yourself. It's almost impossible to hear, but the PA announcer announces "now pitching for the Chicago Cubs, right-hander, number 34, Kerry Wood!" at about the :26 mark, give or take a second or two.

Man, entrance music for closers is so cheesy. It's even worse for a closer in Wrigley since the bullpen is right next to the field and non-enclosed. It's bascally music for a 5 second walk to the mound. Pretty lame.

"Brain Stew" by Green Day. Just so I can see 40,000 people sing "My eyes feel like they're gonna bleed!"
