Brewers released RHP Claudio Vargas.

Bizarre. Vargas entered spring training looking like a long shot to win a spot in the Milwaukee rotation, but he had a 3.86 ERA in his five starts and it had seemed to be a given that he'd be in the rotation with both Yovani Gallardo and Chris Capuano out. At the very least, the Brewers figured to be able to trade him thanks to his strong spring. His $3.6 million salary proved to be too much of a hindrance apparently. Expect the Astros, Mets and others to pursue him once he clears waivers. Both Carlos Villanueva and Manny Parra will have rotation spots now.

I think this is relatively surprising. vargas has had a good spring and everything I have read here in Milwaukee is that Bush was the odd man out of the rotation.

Given how the Cubs rotation looks right now, Vargas would be the 4th best starter.

I disagree. Vargas can take his 5+ ERA elsewhere. However, one could argue that his absence reduces the Brewers ML pitching depth.

$3 million was too much of a burden? Man, Milwaukee is cheap. I wonder if the Nats will go after him. Their rotation is fubar, he might be the #1 or #2 in that rotation.

Just looked at his stats and realized I was thinking of someone else. I take that back. His stats are gross.
