I know we have bigger issues, but is anyone else worried about the lack of pop in our bench. As of now we have ward, murton, cedeno, blanco, and fuld/fontenot. If there are a couple key injuries, we could be in trouble.

With the exception of Blanco, that looks like a pretty good bench of young and/or cheap players to me.

Is fuld any good? I hadn't heard of him before he was called up last year. All I remember is that he is fast and a good defender, but I don't remember anything about his offense.

I doubt Fuld is on the team. It seems that either Pie or Fuld will make the team, but not both. I'm guessing that we'll acquire someone else for the bench toward the end of ST.

Hopefully this time we'll get someone better than freddy bynum.

I assume Freddy "Boom-Boom" Bynum will be heading to the Reds.

I don't expect Murton to be on the team. There's no place to play him, he's of almost no value to us now (other than in a trade) and his trade value will only decline and he ages, gets closer to FA and spends more of his prime years on the bench. I'd guess we'll have some veteran backup corner OF. Hopefully said vet has some pop.

Hey, the Cubs did correct that mistake and turn Boom Boom into Kevin Hart.

On ESPN 1000 yesterday bruce levine was discussing the roberts rumors yesterday. FWIW,

Levine stated toward the end of the show if the Cubs trade Ronny Cedeno for Brian Roberts, they will sign Alex Cintron....from what he has been told. Cintron will serve as the backup middle infielder.

Ward isn't a HR threat, but can drive the ball for extra bases as a LH PH, and Murton is fine as RH pop off the bench too. I'd want a RH stick for the OF if Murton gets dealt, but I'm not really worried about the bench not having pop.

I would like to have Jake Fox on the bench, especially if Murton is dealt. I think he would be a great power bat off the bench, a good emergency catcher, and I think he could be good enough that we could eventually deal him to an AL team as a DH and get something pretty decent in return.

I am not all that worried about our bench we have two pretty good bench bats in Murton and Ward, and ones a lefty and ones a righty (not matter how much easier life would be if he was a lefty), a good defensive outfielder with Fuld, a good defensive catcher in Blanco, and then Fontenot or Patterson.
