why werent these included dag nabbit

I assumed that those were a joke from the reaction of the other posters, and I just used you second set of projections. Do you wanna have your first ones included too?

And I was hoping that someone here could do me a favor. For the article I'm writing I'm comparing the Crew to the Cubs, and I'm not exactly sure of who fills out the remaining spots on the Cubs 25 man roster. Could some post it, including who the most likely 5th starter will be? Thanks.

....and keep those projections coming!

That's a bit difficult, considering there are still some holes on this team that are very likely to be filled in with a minor trade or signing (such as a backup CF), but as of today, I'd say at least these guys are sure bets to make the team.

C - Soto

1B - Lee

2B - DeRosa

SS - Theriot

3B - Ramirez

LF - Soriano

CF - Pie

RF - Fukudome

Bench:

Blanco

Ward

Murton

SP1 - Zambrano

SP2 - Lilly

SP3 - Hill

SP4 - Marquis

SP5 - Lieber

Bullpen:

Wood

Howry

Marmol

Wuertz

Dempster

Eyre

The last three spots are between Cedeno, Fontenot, Fuld, EPatt, Gallagher, Lahey, Marshall, Cotts, Pignatiello, and maybe some others I'm not thinking of.

Just a point of curiosity - I hardly see anyone rounding their predicted numbers to the nearest .005 or .010. Why so specific on the precision of the numbers?

Why "pinto"?

WHY NOT!?!

Heh, fair point. Also, what the heck is pinto? Is this a baseball musings reference?

Let me ask a different question - It seems that, on the whole, people are fairly optimistic that the back end of the bullpen will have a strong year. If that is the case, and we think that the peripherals of the top 3 in the rotation don't regress much, why the bump up in ERAs for Z and Lilly? I would think that the strength of defense and the fact that people dont expect that many inherited baserunners to score (strength of bullpen), would lead to an expectation of similar or better performances out of the top 3 in the rotation in terms of ERA.

No, just an obscure Animal House reference so I won't hold it against you for not recognizing it.

Myself personally, I think Lilly just pitched a little over his head last year, and is going to come back a little. Hill I think will do great again this year, and Zambrano I hope will come closer to his career average...but continued regression wouldn't surprise me either. I think his problems have been mental and mechanical and not physical and that he can correct those.

Take a look at what Al at BCB has so far. He's being rediculously optimistic:

Geovany Soto: .278/.343/.426 15 HR, 26 2B, 65 RBI, 62 R

Derrek Lee: .320/.399/.588 36 HR, 40 2B, 95 RBI, 103 R

Mark DeRosa: .295/.357/.429 11 HR, 32 2B, 67 RBI, 70 R

Aramis Ramirez: .301/.354/.572 40 HR, 37 2B, 122 RBI, 99 R

Ryan Theriot: .277/.341/.376 3 HR, 36 2B, 40 RBI, 85 R

Alfonso Soriano: .295/.339/.546 39 HR, 44 2B, 96 RBI, 111 R
