Oh yes, roto drafting season is upon us and I recently had the chance to offer up my goods, er, participate in a 5×5 12-team draft that will be used by Yahoo! fantasy baseball columnist Andy Behrens for some upcoming joints. We’re going to play it out as well.

As is always the case, readers, if you aren’t interested in fantasy baseball, please move along and pretend you never read this in the first place. We’re heading into a pretty nerdy neck of the woods here.

The participants in the draft included luminaries from Rotoworld (patbooyah), The Hardball Times (Derek Carty), North Side Baseball (Tim Stuart), the Pine Tar Incident, and a smattering of Fantasy Baseball Cafe writers (Brendan Horton and the other FBC named creations). There was also something called DirtyScottsdale, whose affiliation I’m not sure of.

Nice draft, my friend. Keep us posted.

I enjoyed reading this guy's comments, but I think he's out of the loop a bit. I think Tim did an outstanding job with his team.

C- Martinez

1b- James Loney

2b- Brandon Phillips

SS- Edgar Renteria

3b- Miguel Cabrera

OF- Kosuke Fukudome

OF- Matt Kemp

OF- Nick Swisher

OF- Jay Bruce

OF- JD Drew

SP- Sabathia

SP- Beckett

SP- Oswalt

SP- Escobar

SP- Ubaldo Jimenez

SP- Kuroda

SP- Prior

RP- Tony Pena

RP- Fuentes

RP- Kerry Wood

RP- Joba Chamberlain

That's a pretty good 16 team line up, but it's only a 12 team league. The dude's comments about Pujols putting up better numbers than Cabrera is arguable. Pujols can't straighten one of his arms all the way out. He's a dangerous early pick. Pujols will also suffer from PA's, as his teammates all sorta suck. Cabrera will be surrounded by stud hitters.

Not many big boppers in the line up, but guys who can put up pretty decent AVG, R, OBP and RBI. I'm guessing SB is not one of the 5 scoring categories considering Tim will suffer in that department. Swisher will now have a better supporting cast. I already mentioned Cabrera, but Renteria is in that same line up. The one drawback to those 2 are moving to a new league. Renteria sucked in Boston's star studded line up a few years back. I expect a huge jump for Drew, and I'd be a bit worried that Garciaparra steals some at bats from Loney against LHP.

Swisher's going to hit 40 hr this year in the southside bandbox. Plus, since he has 1B and OF qualifications, having him set me up to be patient and playing upside on some youngsters in Loney & Bruce.

Pujols is an injury risk and has stated that he's not going to play injured again this year. If his elbow is hurting, he's having surgery and ending his year. Cabrera's numbers that matter might go down in detroit, but he's gonna get a bunch more R + RBI in that lineup.

Steals matter, btw, but I ignored them pretty much on purpose other than the Phillips pick. Think of it as a protest against the roto format even though I was participating.

There were a couple of my guys I was targeting that I let go a round too much. Hermida, in particular, was a guy I let go a round too long. I was also pissed I didn't get Marmol.

I'm not counting on Drew for much, but he's a good bet to rebound from the abysmal numbers he put up last year.

I overdrafted a couple Cubs in Kosuke & Kerry, but hey, I was representing!

You made a real good pick in Joba.

I think I would have picked Marcum over Prior.

After I took Wood, Andy joked that I was trying to get Wood & Prior back together. I couldn't let that opportunity pass in the 21st round. Someone has to fill the DL. :)

Andy made fun of my freaking fantasy league! Literally. Steve (aka Pine Tar Incident aka the guy whose regular league drafts at Buffalo Wild Wings) is in my longtime keeper league. So Andy made fun of him, he made fun of me.

And we're drafting at BWW again this year Andy. In yo face.
